SYNTHESIS PAPER
The Relationship Between Philosophy and Science

In this topic, the presenters were able to define what a Philosophy is, and that there is an
entire field of rigorous academic study that deals specifically with what science is, how it works,
and the logic through which we build scientific knowledge, this field is known as “Philosophy of
Science”—the area is complex and remains unstable in terms of scientific inquiry up until now.
Philosophers of science actively study various questions that include the law of nature, the kind
of data, evidence, and hypotheses, as well as the different models and theories that would also
serve as a bases in proving something.

There is always a diversity of opinions and criticisms came out from several actions
about the belief including the Greek philosophers’ works, yet philosophers of science can largely
agree on one thing that there is no single or simple way to define science. There are also many
scientists involved in giving heavy and great contributions and defining what science is and what
is not, but along with these, they found that there are some questions cannot totally be
answered by science and that is the time that philosophy existed, which means that it was being
separated as another area or field using different basis, including its nature. The different
theories of knowledge seek to determine the most fundamental one, philosophers and scientist
used their observation to gather knowledge and formulate conclusion and generalization at the
end, logical reasoning follows, and empirical science takes place. Sometimes we get confused
also, because we know that knowledge comes from both observation and experiences using
different senses we have, but during the time of the origination of philosophy there were groups
of logical thinkers who believed for the existence of something based on their pure reasons and
understanding to create knowledge about concepts. In our recent times, either of the two-way is
accepted, maybe it only depends on the perspective or point of view of a certain person. History
finds its way also for us to understand the true nature of philosophy over science, these two are
quite separated and they collide for several reasons that need justification for determining the
cause of something such as phenomenon.

Many ask about the true relationship between science and philosophy, and if we are
going to review the occurrence of things according to their time then probably history will explain
the best out of unknown, philosophy is existed to generate explanation about many things that
even a scientific method itself cannot answer, yet we know that science is very positive and
logical in its nature, and because of science innovations began, that is why if we are not making
any sense in giving considerations to the other side of it that sometimes it can’t provide
everything in this world then we would not be able to embrace the vital aspect and function of
philosophy, maybe we should recognize that science has its own scope and limitations as well,
science is discovered by man, and man is created by God, which means that we are bounded
with different tenets which we believed we are living through them, like science and philosophy
that has a connection for sometime and it could be inverse or direct depending on the nature of
natural phenomena that is happening around us and maybe if their connection loses at some
point, then that is the best time that we can demand for justification.
