Written Response to Educ 291-Course Syllabus

It is quite challenging for me to deal with the Educ 291 which is Measuring Outcomes

in Science Education, yet I also have a prior idea as to what thing I will be engaging in, most

particularly that I have always been dealing with various strategies and types of assessment in

the field of teaching and learning process which are anchored also to the Most Essential

Learning Competency provided by the Department of Education (DepEd). I know also that at

some point I will be dealing with this kind of course (Educ 291), because nowadays as a

teacher I also need to improve or develop my skills in the making of the test items, as to how

I’ll be administering the test and of course how to interpret the result of the test at the end for

me also to say that there is learning from my students that takes place after all.

My reaction to Measuring Outcomes in Science Education is that this has something

to do with all the necessary procedures or processes that we need to consider also most

probably in constructing various types of tests or assessments, that would probably serve also

as our basis in supervising the test need to be conducted, until such that through following all

intended procedures, applying the basic skills and practices to further hone my skills would

be also good in dealing with the desired outcomes that I always wanted from my students to

obtain along the way. I am excited to know more about various types of assessments and find

an answer as to how assessment differs from evaluation because these two concepts also,

most particularly in dealing with their differences is quite difficult for me to find out, and of

course, the way as to how I might be able to apply all the learnings that I might get from this
course would be the most exciting part. I would love to say that I want to know more about

how to execute properly the classroom assessment because in the Department of Education

(DepEd) we tend to focus only on formative and summative assessments, if there more then I

want to know more about them (most especially the way they are conducted), something like:

do they can be conducted through the application of contextualization or not?

Maybe at some point, we also need to provide clarification about expectations, like

we are expecting that 75% of the total population of our students might attain a passing grade

on our test, then we need to know their background, the process, or even the type of test that

would best fit to them, for us also to know what we should do, what we are going to consider

in the administration of our test, and maybe we need to clarify something for us also to attain

good expectations that would probably help us reach the desired outcomes/objectives that we

wanted throughout, this leads us to understand the way or process of attaining what is

intended to be attained. And my only concerns about this subject are that I hope this could

provide me with more learnings about assessment and different tools which are appropriate

and beneficial in my part and field of specialization also in teaching science to one of the

rural or barangay schools of Masbate City, I also hope that this could develop me obtain the

possible characteristics of one of the 21st-century educators who teach science and apply

different concepts of science not only in term of assessment, evaluation, process, skills and

even in the development of knowledge as a whole, for being a teacher in the field and as a

student in this subject I do hope that everything goes fine also as I seek new files of learning

towards this course and apply all of those learnings or insights that I could get from dealing

with it.
