The Philippines is known for being rich in agricultural foods crops and rice is one of the

leading agricultural products. Rice straw is removed with rice grains and ends up being
piled or spread out in the field. These agricultural residues are usually burned in the
field after the crop is harvested. Agricultural waste such as rice straw can be used in
construction. The practical application of this waste has attracted significant interest
from academics and industry, particularly in civil engineering, due to its high tensile
strength and low weight. This study aims to determine the effect of using fine rice straw
as an admixture to produce concrete pavement block. This study was carried out using
Complete Randomized Design (CRD) that was analyzed using a one-way analysis of
variance (ANOVA). A post hoc test using Fisher’s Least Square Difference (LSD) was
performed to determine the further analysis of the specific difference between each
treatment and control. The study was conducted by drying and grinding the rice straw
thoroughly and mixing it with cement, then proper procedures were followed. The result
of the study shows that adding fine rice straw can make the sample lighter and
absorbent to water. However, it was found that the higher the amount of rice straw
added, the strength of the paving block also decreases, which conforms to the previous
study.
