POM ASSIGNMENT 2

Muhammad Rameez Khan 19257

*A1*  The acquisition of Argos by Sainsbury’s greatly resulted in delivering superior value
to it’s customers. With Sainsbury’s being the leading British Supermarket, Argos had an
upper hand in achieving its sales goals and satisfying its customers when coupled with the
brand value and customer loyalty of Sainsbury’s itself. As in the casestudy, it is stated that
the first 10 outlets of Argos that were opened in the stores of Sainsbury’s had 30% increase in
its sales. With Sainsbury’s having numerous branches throughout the country, having an
Argos centre at every Sainsbury’s branch will highly favour the customers by providing them
convenience in shopping. The design makeover from wooden floorboards and cabinets to
tiled floors and LED display boards have also increased the value of shopping for customers.
Moreover, the ambition of Argos to provide Same Day Delivery to its customers was greatly
achieved mainly by providing collection points at every Sainsbury’s outlet. Where customers
can get their products quicker than ever. All these factors resulted in Sainsbury’s acquisition
of Argos in catalysing superiority in value to the customers.

*A2*  First of all, Argos consistent focus on not just providing thousands of products to its
customers, but also making sure to satisfy the needs and wants of their customers by taking
the feedback of their customers’ transactions. Argos focus on catalog retailing is a part of its
quest to satisfy consumers through satisfaction. Through these catalogs, the customers can
easily browse through different categories of products offline and online, offered by Argos
and select what they want to buy. Hence, shopping is made easier and convenient. The top
hierarchy of Argos also focuses on keeping the customers satisfied with seasoned products
and excellent customer service. Along with promising to motivate its customers to stay loyal
to them. This is achieved through Same Day Delivery Service where Argos not only
promised its clientele loyalty but also attracted new customers who are keen on market
efficiency. Lastly, Argos keen interest in societal marketing like reducing carbon footprint,
reducing waste disposal and helping the local NGOs also played its role in vastly increasing
the customer share.

*A3*  I agree to the claim that Argos Marketing Management Orientation is a marketing
concept since most of the actions taken by Argos to improve customer profitability is a
marketing concept. If we talk about the catalog retailing, besides providing ease in shopping,
the catalogs market all the products provided by Argos in an efficient and seamless manner.
Complemented to that, the hefty catalogs are replaced by iPad style terminals to facilitate
order processing and making marketing easier. The LED display boards replaced by the
wooden cabinets also enhance the marketing experience of Argos’s products in their retails
stores. Argos attractive schemes on Black Friday and the firm’s determination to lead the
digital market and transforming itself into a “click and collect” business. Moreover, Argos’s
positive steps towards the betterment of the society like reducing carbon footprint and
helping the NGOs are also making a great impact through societal marketing concept.
*A4*  First of all, Argos’s enhancing their catalog retailing by replacing the hefty catalogs
with iPad Style terminals is a huge example that the firm is keen to take all the necessary
actions to cope up with the changing dynamics of the market. The firm is focused on digital
retailing, by making itself a “click and collect” business. Its firm determination to become the
digital retail leader is seen from the facts that almost 60% of Argos’s sale is done by online
transactions. And the organisation is a first retailer in Britain to make over £1 billion through
mobile payments. The core values of the company also includes to keep the customers loyal
even when the competition entices them. And since the competition is increasing, Argos
increased their market share and customer value by providing Same Day Delivery service
which is a great step towards efficiency on its own. Furthermore, Argos is providing catchy
promotional offers at events like Big Friday and not missing the opportunity to get organic
traffic on their website on important events in the country.

*A5*  Keeping in mind the stiff competition, Argos can initiate marts on wheels where they
can buy huge trucks and transform them to a mobile mart. And basic important stuff can be
sold to the customers through marts on wheels at their doorstep, hence increasing the value to
their customers and gaining new customers as well since many people will find it extremely
convenient to buy stuff from their favourite retailer, that too just outside their house doorstep.
Secondly, they can also increase the wallet share by introducing a system of redeemable
points through which customers can earn points based on the amount they shop from the
stores and get hefty discounts using those points, or even get things for free for certain
amount of points.
