Plan of Ways Forward

The beginning of the new school year brought many challenges to schools, teachers,
children and parents, who had to adapt to the new method of teaching and learning in the
conditions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the new circumstances, the quality
and inclusion of education are at stake and many children are at an increased risk of being left
behind.
In order to understand how to support children, schools and parents during the
COVID-19 pandemic, we want to hear from children and parents directly about the concerns
they have, the challenges they face, but also how they think these issues can be solved. Only
through such discussions and consultations can we get to know about the real needs of
children, parents and teachers, and Pisa Elementary School will make an effort to support the
institutions of the system to respond to these needs, so that every child has access to quality,
safe and inclusive education.
Pisa ES, together with DepEd, has previously advocated that safe and quality child-
friendly education during a pandemic, with a focus on the needs of the most vulnerable,
should be a priority of the government and the whole society. Pisa ES has also advocated for
decisions on school reopening and modalities of work to be made in cooperation with health
professionals, the school management and staff, parents, students and the local community.
With the support of DepEd, on a nationally representative sample of parents of
school-age children showed that most parents think that, in the long run, distance learning can
lead to a decline in children's motivation to learn. They also point out that children miss
socializing with their peers and that many parents cannot provide adequate support for their
children in learning.
Pisa ES will continue to advocate for all institutions of the system to provide support
to schools, students and families in overcoming the challenges they face during the
organization of classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minutes of the Meeting with the Parents

Pisa ES conducted a PTA meeting in preparation for the Modular Distance Learning
modality since Face to Face is not yet possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting
formally started at 8:00 am with a prayer by Mrs. Lourdes A. Garcia. In her opening message
Mrs. Mary Ann G. Barquio, Head Teacher I of PES emphasized the importance of the
parents/guardian’s role in the learning of the children in this pandemic times. She mentioned
the importance of learning continuity despite of what is happening around. Parents posed
queries as to how are they going to go about the new normal way of learning. Some of them
have apprehensions as to how they will go about with this sudden turn about in the field of
teaching. This is especially true for those parents who has more than 1 child of school age.
Somehow, it posed a problem on their part.
On the other side, members of the teaching force emphasized the importance of the
parents’ commitment and to make learning possible. They cite several things to be considered
to make learning at home enjoyable and interesting. Some of these are:
1. Proper mind set on the part of the parents and the learner
2. Provision of an area at home /learning. which is conducive for studying
3. Providing a school-feel space for the children to be more interested to learn
4. Make teaching-learning enjoyable by providing lesson- related activities at home
5. Constant communication with teachers regarding inquiries about the lesson and
progress of the child through text or call
6. Exchanging of ideas with other parent/guardians as to ways/ manners on how they can
teach their child more effectively
7. Praising the child for a task well-done and assisting her/him with difficult lessons
8. Giving relaxation time so the child will not feel burned-out

During the meeting, parents were oriented regarding the procedure of the distribution
and retrieval of the module. Barangay Officials were, likewise present in the vicinity of the
school to monitor if the health and safety protocols were strictly followed. The meeting
adjourned at 11:00 am.

Narrative Report and Analysis

on the project

After two school years without face-to-face classes, the empty halls and corridors of
public schools nationwide will once again be filled with students as the Department of
Education (DepEd) formally opens the School Year (SY) 2022-2023 on Monday, Aug. 22.

“We are still living in an extraordinary time but the dedication, commitment and hard
work demonstrated by everyone leading to the opening of our schools on Aug. 22 is not only
equally extraordinary but also inspiring — showing how important it is for us that our
children are equipped with the right knowledge and skill set,” Vice President and Education
Secretary Sara Duterte said during the launch of DepEd’s “Oplan Balik Eskwela” for 2022
last week.

Due to the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, in-person classes were not allowed in SY
2020-2021 and SY 2021-2022.

Instead, DepEd shifted to distance learning where students learned their lessons at
home through multiple learning delivery modalities such as printed/offline modular; online;
radio and television-based instruction; and blended learning or a combination of two delivery
modes.

For the first time in two years, public schools nationwide will be opening their doors
to all students for face-to-face classes. Ang we in Pisa, are proudly says that we are ready for
the comeback of our dear students. We are 100% prepared for this moment.

As part of its preparations for the
