standards are to be observe or practiced in actual debate settings.

Importance of Competition must be kept in perspective.

Most participants view debate as a competition; there is nothing wrong with this
approach because viewing debate as a competition motivates participants to seek reliable
information. However, we should keep in mind that a debate is a structured discussion or
contest about an issue or a resolution in which they express their ideas eloquently.

Honesty and integrity should be maintain.

To make it credible, participants must be truthful in their claims and supporting
evidence. Their evidence and reasoning will be reliable as a result. Participants will keep and
present a fair and accurate argument in this case.

Respect each participants.

Respecting others' viewpoints does not imply betraying our own. It simply requires the
participants to recognize that others have the right to see the world differently than we do,
and that when the participants share their perspectives with the other side, they can expect a
fair hearing. What we believe is an essential component of who we are. Seeing both sides of a
conflict allows the participants to better understand the opposing viewpoints.

Complete citations and verbatim quotations is required in evidence standards.

Citing your sources is an important aspect of being a responsible, trustworthy, and
exceptional participants. Crediting the resources you use not only provides proof of the
research the participants conducted and increases your credibility, but it also helps the
participants to avoid plagiarism.
