Description and Analysis

Dress is a very important element in the context of our country because our culture is directly related with our

dress pattern. It reflects our culture, also shows our identity. We have our traditional dress for our own event

like Pahela Baishakh,Eid,Falgun and so many events. We practice dance, drama and so many things. So dress

plays a vital role over there.

But the world around us is growing really fast. The people of our country are trying to cope up with the

changing world. So somehow our dress pattern of our male and female changes radically. It happens for many

reasons. Mostly the young generation is very much interested and influenced by western culture. So western

culture is now mixing with our own culture. In terms of dress, the pattern is changing also. It is giving negative

6
impact to our culture and we are losing our dress culture day by day. If that happens then our own culture will

be distinct.

Impacts of changing dressing trend

There are so many impacts of this changing dress trends over the male and female of our country. This creates

social, ethical, economic, personal and religious conflict as well.

Westernization : People are now changing their taste of dress change. They are basically influenced by the

global world. We all use television or the social networking site a lot. We see many types of different dress over

there. We get attracted a lot. People has an affection to western dress. So they try to adopt those culture by

following there dress pattern. Boys see many stylish dress up which are basically used in abroad. They try to

cope up with that fashion and style. Girls are also very much fond of western dresses. Most of the female of our

country watches hindi serials. They see there a lot of dress. They get influenced by it. In Eid-Ul-Fitre there was

a dress name “pakhi” dress. All of the women went crazy to buy this dress. So we can see this strongly that

they are highly influenced and forget there own culture. People see many worldwide programmes and get

influenced. So Television and social networking site plays an important role.

Economic : There are many Fashion design house in our country. As the people of our country is highly

attracted by the western fashion, they try to implement western fashion in our dress. They organize fashion

show, write article or magazine for those and people after seeing those get crazy to buy those dresses. Because

of this the designers of our country are earning good amount of money but the buyers are losing money to fulfill

their own demands or their favourites. In spite of all these things at the end men and women of our country are

forgetting their own culture.

7
Globalization: Globalization has both positive and negative impact. In this scenario another reason of

forgetting our own culture is globalization. In many places many organization follows the western culture dress

for boys and girls. So they have to abide by the rule. So people are now a days by forgetting their own culture

moved to western culture. It helps them to cope up with the current world but in the context of our culture this is

not a good practice.

Psychological : People are so biased about the western dress but most of them do not know we export dress

type accessories to all over the world and we are the best in it. Just to give you an example- If you are coming

from abroad and buy a dress for your relative, he or she will be very happy. But if you buy a dress from your

country then he or she will not be very happy. But he or she does not know that the dress which was brought for

him or her is originally Bangladeshi product. So this reflects that people have a belief that western dress is much

better and day by day they are adapting those culture.

Social : There are some negative things about the dress changing pattern. Mostly girls are suffering from all of

these. Girls are wearing t shirt, pant in our society. This is basically a western practice. Saree and kameez is our

cultural dress. So by wearing those shirts and pants they are making a massive change in our society. The girls

who are practicing this western culture, gradually affected to it. There is a belief of many people that more on

sexual harassment is increasing because of this reason. Rape case, Eve teasing are the reasons for these types of

dress changing because our culture and society is different from the western people.

Religious: As our country is basically a Muslim country so these types of western dresses is criticized by

many people. According to Muslim religion women should be covered up with “Borka” and “Hijab” etc. As

women in our country are ignoring this and grabbing foreign culture it cannot be related with our religion and

even with our culture and society. Because of this confusing matter social, religious, personal conflict are

arising each and every day. So we can say that western culture is slowly damaging our culture. Basically we all

are practicing a mixed culture in our country which takes us a long way from our own culture, religion and

society.

Conclusion
Fashion started off in ancient times as culture and clothing was different in every country, now a days it is
similar all around the world. In Bangladesh, it is now a common trend because of globalization of culture and
fashion revolution. There are also some reason that would be society’s views on people. People want to be seen
with the best clothing possible. You wear something different from everybody else and you will be judged
because of it. If people like what you are wearing, then they will start wearing similar clothes as you. This is
just how the dressing trends change.
We, Bangladeshi people are mostly following Western-style clothing which create a bad impact on our own
traditional clothing. This is not only impact on fashion but also on our culture.By following this we are losing
our own identity.
It is a good sign for Bangladesh that the Fashion Designing Profession has recently emerged as demandable
careers among the youth. These youth have their own creative style of dressing and belief in setting a trend
rather than following a trend set by others. But they should always give the first priority while designing
something or representing their own country. As we are attaching more towards the foreign culture day by day,
so along with designers we all should follow and focus on our own culture to protect our own tradition so that
we can uphold our country.
