Start your class asking students to describe or speak about boarding schools. If not give them
some info about them:
A boarding school is a pre-university level school where most or all of the students take up residence
when school is in session. The word ”boarding” is used in the sense of "room and board," i.e., lodging
and meals. Boarding schools are also known as University or College Preparatory Schools, aka “Prep
Schools.”
Ask students to read the text about two British boarding schools and ask them what do they think
of them. Do they like to go to one? Why/ why not?

After reading and speaking about them read the titles (a-e) on Ex. 2 and match them with the
paragraphs (1-5).
Then ask students to tell the other about their reading skills. How do they read when they do not
have a lot / enough time. Introduce to them the concept of “Scanning for information” and why is
it helpful.
Ask them to complete Ex. 4 and 5 based on the technique just learned. Check if it is helpful for
them or not.
