Public School Teachers Salary Should Increase

The education sector has employed many individuals in the world today. Today, there are

many schools compared to the past years due to the ever-growing population and the increased

need for education. Private and public schools have therefore employed many individuals as

teachers to help satisfy the demand for education. Public school teacher salary has continually

decreased with time. The salary range varies depending on the teacher's qualification, additional

skills, and years of experience. General teachers are loaded with many tasks and deal with many

students because parents prefer to take their children to public schools because public schools

often charge less for school fees. Decreasing the salary of the public school teachers acts as a

demotivation that kills their work morale and, in turn, reduces the teacher's service quality.

Students in this stage are critical because it is the learning stage, and also, it is time a child first

gets into contact with their intended life goals. The stage is also vital because it is where children

learn most survival life skills. Therefore, anything that exposes children to risk in this stage, such

as low teachers' salaries, should be dealt with to motivate teachers who play a vital role in this

crucial stage of any child's life. Therefore, public teachers' pay should be increased for various

reasons, such as guaranteeing job satisfaction and motivating teachers to deliver quality services.

Finally, an increment in payment keeps the teacher in class.

First, a salary increase promotes job satisfaction to any employee. Job satisfaction is the

level to which an employee feels contented with their work (Falahat 84). When an individual is

content with their work, they enjoy doing it, which dramatically improves the organization's

productivity. Job dissatisfaction is the main reason some schools do better than others, even

though they share the same resource. Lack of work contentment among the employees of any

organization is hazardous because it is one of the contributing factors that result in the death of

organizations that were previously doing well in the market. No individual would be contented

in doing a job whose salary does not match their work. A salary increase is a strong promotor of

job satisfaction because every employee wants a job that pays enough to lead a comfortable life

(Iqbal et al. 2). Job satisfaction yields increment in productivity, which helps create a good name

for any organization and attracts many customers as they all want quality deliverables.

Decreasing teachers' salaries will only make the teacher feel dissatisfied, which affects the

students' results, and as a result, the school's public image will be destroyed. Promoting job

satisfaction is very important because it makes teachers play their roles responsibly, mainly in

the lives of the children whose destinies are being put at risk when the teacher is not contented

with their work. Promoting job satisfaction among public school teachers is attached to many

benefits for the school and the students. The benefits of job satisfaction among teachers include

loyalty to their schools, which reduces the probability of any teacher looking for a second job.

Job satisfaction helps reduce turnover rates. Therefore, salary increment is a critical aspect to

consider in the schools' attempt to promote job satisfaction and encourage teachers to enjoy their

work.

Secondly, salary increment motivates teachers as money is a motivating factor amongst

many employees. An individual put extra effort into their work when motivation factors are

introduced. Every individual is motivated to work harder when they know they will receive a

good measure of income at the end of their service as a reward (Asaari et al. 50). When the

salary of public teachers is increased, it motivates them to work harder, and in turn, students reap

more benefits such as good academic performance. When teachers are motivated, the overall

student performance improves significantly (Rathore 3180). Teachers' payment affects a

student's life directly because when teachers are paid enough, the chances of a student

completing their studies and with a good grade are high. For example, when teachers go for

strikes, students waste a lot of time at home, which opens them to engage in bad company and

destructive behaviors that negatively affect their lives. Increasing the teachers' salary also helps

the school create a good name for itself in the public because its motivated teachers work hard to

ensure good results from their students. The school's good standing in public makes parents

choose to take their children to the schools as parents want to take their children to schools with

a reputation of good performance. Employee motivation is an essential aspect in any

organization because it is only through motivation that employees give their best. After all, they

know that they will be appreciated. Appreciating the hard work of public school teachers by

motivating them makes a very significant difference for the school and the student. Increasing

teachers' salary clearly indicates that the school management and the authorities appreciate their

hard work, and it is human nature to do better when appreciated. Therefore, increasing teachers'

salary motivates them to give their best without holding back, which results in improved

performance of students.

Lastly, salary increment keeps the teacher in class. Good pay ensures that the teacher is

always in style. As the world's economy changes, every individual requires a job with an income

good enough to support them. Teachers have a very challenging task of transforming an

individual and instilling good moral values in them. For this reason, most teachers fail to report

to work because they feel that their salary does not match their daily efforts to be in class.

Payment issues often result in teacher turnover rates rising with a significant percentage (Hung et

al. 105). In cases where the teacher receives good pay, the turnover rate is low because they

receive a measure equal to their sacrifices. The statistics prove that the teacher remains in class

with a good income as opposed to cases of insufficient payment. Human nature dictates that

individuals need to get returns that match their inputs; otherwise, they will give up and look for

alternatives. The same rule applies to teachers. When teachers leave their jobs, they risk the

student's life by taking the wrong direction, therefore hindering them from achieving the goals

they had set in life. Low payments make the teacher look for other reliable sources of income

that will help them survive in this brutal world and provide for their families. Low salaries

significantly impact the teachers' morale in class, resulting in a toxic culture in schools. Teachers

prefer to remain in their offices doing other things they find more important than being with

students in class. Recent studies have shown that many teachers have engaged in other income-

generating activities due to low salaries in their places of work. Research proves that the increase

in teachers' turnover rates is significantly related to the decrease in the overall students'

performance in class, and all are dependent on the teacher's income. Teacher turnover also

affects the public image of the schools discouraging parents from taking their children to such

schools as the quality of teaching services is poor. The turnover rates of teachers can reduce

significantly if the teachers' salaries can be raised to boost their morale and motivation at work.

Therefore salary increment would be an excellent method of motivating teachers to take up this

task and do it appropriately.

In conclusion, there are many reasons why the salary of public teachers should be

increased, including motivating the teacher, keeping the teachers in class, and finally promoting

job satisfaction to teachers. Teachers' wages need to be supplemented with a significant

percentage as a way of appreciating their hard work. Increasing public teachers' salaries comes in

with many advantages and benefits for the school and the students. For these benefits to be

tangible, the teacher's morale at the workplace has to be increased significantly. Understanding

the critical role that teachers have in the community would be essential and would be the first

step to recognizing the selfless effort of teachers. Therefore, it is of great importance that the

authorities consider the possibility of increasing the salary of public teachers as they are often

faced with many life challenges that their current income cannot support.
