Activity 1: Essay.

1.What happened to the appearance of the crater after the volcanic eruption?
- A volcanic crater is a roughly circular depression in the ground generated by volcanic activity.
Molten magma and volcanic gasses ascend through a tube-shaped conduit from an underground
magma chamber to the crater's vent, where the gasses escape into the atmosphere and the magma
erupts as lava.

2.What happened to the portions of the volcano that were removed?

- Huge avalanches of searing hot ash, gas, and pumice pieces, known as pyroclastic flows,
rushed down Pinatubo's sides, filling once-deep valleys with new volcanic deposits up to 660
feet thick. The eruption displaced so much magma and rock from underneath the volcano that the
peak fell to form a tiny crater, causing ashfall to fall not only in locations where it was predicted,
but also in many others.

3. What geologic hazard could be responsible for the movement of the soil?
- Wind erosion is a natural process that uses wind strength to shift dirt from one site to another. It
has the potential to create considerable economic and environmental harm. Wind erosion occurs
when wind causes land removal, displacement, and deposition, and it most typically happens in
open locations such as fields, tailings, and deserts. So, while wind causes erosion, it is primarily
the geography and state of the ground that causes the most devastating wind erosion.
