INTRODUCTION TO EFFICIENT GARBAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEM

Waste management (or waste disposal) includes the processes and actions required to
manage waste from its inception to its final disposal. This includes the collection, transport,
treatment and disposal of waste, together with monitoring and regulation of the waste
management process and waste-related laws, technologies, economic mechanisms.
Waste can be solid, liquid, or gaseous and each type has different methods of disposal and
management. Waste management deals with all types of waste, including industrial,
biological, household, municipal, organic, biomedical, radioactive wastes. In some cases,
waste can pose a threat to human health.Health issues are associated throughout the entire
process of waste management. Health issues can also arise indirectly or directly. Directly,
through the handling of solid waste, and indirectly through the consumption of water, soil and
food. Waste is produced by human activity, for example, the extraction and processing of
raw materials. Waste management is intended to reduce adverse effects of waste on
human health, the environment, planetary resources and aesthetics.

Waste management practices are not uniform among countries (developed and developing
nations); regions (urban and rural areas), and residential and industrial sectors can all take
different approaches.
Proper management of waste is important for building sustainable and liveable cities, but it
remains a challenge for many developing countries and cities. A report found that effective
waste management is relatively expensive, usually comprising 20%–50% of municipal
budgets. Operating this essential municipal service requires integrated systems that are
efficient, sustainable, and socially supported. A large portion of waste management practices
deal with municipal solid waste (MSW) which is the bulk of the waste that is created by
household, industrial, and commercial activity. Measures of waste management include
measures for integrated techno-economic mechanisms of a circular economy, effective
disposal facilities, export and import control and optimal sustainable design of products that
are produced.

Throughout most of history, the amount of waste generated by humans was insignificant due
to low levels of population density and exploitation of natural resources. Common waste
produced during pre-modern times was mainly ashes and human biodegradable waste, and
these were released back into the ground locally, with minimum environmental impact. Tools
made out of wood or metal were generally reused or passed down through the generations.
However, some civilizations have been more profligate in their waste output than others. In
particular, the Maya of Central America had a fixed monthly ritual, in which the people of the
village would gather together and burn their rubbish in large dumps.
IMPORTANCE OF SEGREGATION OF WET AND DRY WASTE

Waste segregation refers to the separation of dry and wet garbage, which paves the way for
other concepts of waste management like composting, recycling and incineration. Its end goal
is to reduce waste from landfills and eventually, prevent land, water and air pollution.

When you segregate waste at home daily, you are winning half the battle as a responsible
citizen. This habit will considerably bring down the problems for your municipal authorities
to manage solid waste. The best part is, neither does it cost you any extra money nor does it
take up much time. The only thing you need is awareness and the desire to act on it.

Degradable waste is organic in its contents and does not cause harm to the earth. Non-
biodegradable waste damages the environment, increases the ‘pollution load’ on the earth and
generally becomes a nuisance. However, its inorganic nature makes it good for recycling
units and that’s where it should be headed. Of course, you don’t need to search for a recyling
unit. The local kaba diwala or scrap dealer will do. These people are an essential part of the
recycling chain

When you separate your dry waste into smaller categories like paper, plastic, cardboard and
metal, you can easily sell them for a small price to the scrap dealer. He will eventually pass
them on to the manufacturers who will use them as raw materials in recycled products. What
was “rubbish” in your household goes on to acquire new value in the manufacturing process.
It will be used to make a functional product. When you segregate waste at home, you are also
contributing to the nation’s economy and reducing the pollution load at the same time.

Good for the pickers

Segregation protects health. When waste pickers put their hands into the waste to clean it up,
it results in cuts that further lead to infections, resulting in deterioration of a waste picker’s
health. It becomes our responsibility to helpthese waste pickers by carefully segregating the
waste that is generated in our homes.

Good for the planet- It is also important to segregate for public health. In particular,
hazardous wastes can cause long term health problems, so it is very important that they are
disposed of correctlyand safely and not mixed in with the normal waste coming out of your
home or office.
ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED

ACTIVITY -1

WASTE SEGREGRATION

Segregating or separating the dry and wet waste in our house ,I got a very big of the
importance of this which is really necessary to save guard our environment and to maintain
our health and to keep our surrounding and people clean.

ACTIVITY-2

BOTTLE GARDENING

Bottle gardening is the technique of waste to wealth where the plastic bottle which is
considered to be waste and causes lots of damage to the environment can be reduced by
making something use of it in that bottle gardening is one of the way in which we can have
two profits one we can grow some small plants which give more positive vibe and second is
that we can save pollution because of plastic .

SAVE NATURE SAVE EARTH .!

OBSERVATIONS AND LEARNING:
This study adds to previous literature on waste collection and recycling by carrying out an
observational study, an underutilized methodology that provides unique data on waste
disposal behavior, in a novel park setting. we found that improper waste disposal has led to
poor sanitation resulting in sickness outbreak of diseases such as cholera related diarrhea,
malaria and related diseases.

Finally, the study revealed that the provision of trash contains or dustbins at designated points
of collection are the most efficient and effective ways of improving the waste management
challenge as it will go a long way to improve sanitation.

This bottle gardening study has given a message of how important to save nature and also to
grow plants ,I felt happy when I consumed the vegetables , leaves, fruits or flowers which
was grown by our own effort without any chemicals infront of our sight gives the satisfactory
happiness.
