NDAI DAY & MAPEH DAYS 2022

Theme: “Notredamians with reverence together inspire harmony in progress”
September 8-10, 2022

Rationale:
NDAI Days are believed to be the most anticipated time of the school year. NDAI Days season, which includes opportunities for growth, camaraderie, and enjoyment as well as co-curricular
activities, are always the talk of the town in September. The SSG office hopes that this event will give students a way to explore their talents and potential while also helping them deal with issues
related to their mental health and academic worries. With these conditions, the SSG hopes to accomplish one of the NDAI Goals by making the student activities something exceptional and of the
highest standard. NDAI Days is one of the reasons of what Notredamians are trying to look forward in the institution – the experience, fellowship, fun and energy they have never felt before.
The event overview and incorporates the collaboration of varied sports, and integration of practical skills which will propagate students’ sense of responsibility, teamwork, maturity,
leadership and sportsmanship. While competitive students are fighting for triumph, the complete opposite comes on the other side of the party as the student – organizing leaders take this opportunity
to live out what leadership and service is all about. This activity is actually a win – win situation as everybody in the campus has something to benefit and learn. NDAI Days is not just about playing
and winning, behind those are countless experiences and opportunities of development to which they will hone and utilize leadership, talents and excellence for the rest of their lives.

Objectives:
1. To commemorate the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary through spiritual celebrations, recreational activities, games and sportsmanship.
2. To incorporate different activities from the most essential learning competencies of various academic disciplines.
3. To enhance students’ skills, knowledge and capacity in varied sports, creativity, teamwork and leadership.
4. To fortify and rejuvenate students’ physical and social health stature.

Vision: We envision a God-centered community known for its academic excellence, holistic formation and pastoral orientation with Mary as patroness and model.
Mission: We commit to produce highly competent graduates by providing a transformative education and formation to people of diverse faith and culture through updated programs, instructions and active pastoral involvement. Page 1 of 55

Play:

- Each player chooses a color and the 10 pegs of that color are placed in the appropriately colored
triangle.
- A toss of a coin decides who starts. Players make turns to move into an adjacent hole or it may
make one or more hops over other pegs.
- Where a hoping move is made, each hope must be over an adjacent peg and into the vacant hole
directly beyond it. Each hope may be over any colored peg including the player’s own and can
proceed in any one of the six directions. After each hope, the player may either finish or. If
possible and desired, can continue by hoping over another peg all the way from the starting
triangle across the board and into the opposite triangle in one turn.
- Pegs are never removed from the board. However, one peg has reached the opposite triangle, it
may not be removed out of triangle-only within the triangle.
- The question soon arises as to whether it is possible to move a peg into a triangle that is the
starting or target triangle for another player. House rules may apply but Masters Games suggests
the following: A peg can be hopped through such a triangle but is not allowed to come to rest in
that triangle.

SUNGKA
MECHANICS & GUIDELINES

1. To begin the game, the sungka board must be placed horizontally between two players.
2. Each player has seven houses/holes in front.
3. A player may decide which of the seven houses directly in front of him/her, (on her/his side of
the board) he/she wishes to begin with.
4. He/she picks up all of the pebbles from his/her own chosen hole and he/she should then move
his/her hand around the board in a clockwise-direction, dropping one pebble in each hole or
head he/she passes over, including all the holes on both sides of the board and the player’s head
but NOT the opponent’s head.
5. Where you release the last pebble from your hand is very important, as it dictates whether you
may continue your turn. If you land in your head, then you may continue your turn from any of
your holes.
6. If you drop your last pebble into a hole that already had pebbles in it, you may pick up every
pebble in that hole (including the one you dropped) and continue your turn.
7. The goal is to accumulate as many pieces in your own “head”.

Competition Mechanics:
1. The participant/s must wear their respective house color for identification. Failure to follow
will lead to deduction of points.

GAMES OF THE GENERALS

MECHANICS & GUIDELINES

1. The participants are open for all Notredamians.

2. Each member must wear their respective house color. Failure to follow will lead to deduction
of points.
3. Each house must have one (1) representative.
4. The participant/s must be at the designated location, 10 minutes before the commencement of
the game. Late participants will lead to deduction of points.
5. The winner will be announced after defeating all players.
6. The member/s that will represent the team must be the one listed on the participant’s list. If a
sudden change was made, inform the SSG Officers with a reason, three hours before the
scheduled time of kick off. On the spot changing of contenders will lead to deduction of points
per participant.

Preparing for Battle:

• Spread out the board. Arrange your respective sets of pieces on the first three (3)
rows on the end of the board with the printed sides facing you. There is no
predetermined place for any piece. You are therefore free to arrange the pieces
according to your strategy of style of play. Note that as you arrange your pieces on
the first three (3) rows, you will find six (6) vacant squares. This is to allow for
maneuvering and freedom of movement when play begins.

Movement:
1. Any player makes the first move. Players move alternately.
2. A player is allowed to move only one piece at a time.
3. A move consists of pushing a piece to an adjacent square, either forward, backward or sideward.
A diagonal move or a move of more than one square is illegal.

Challenging:
• As the game progresses, challenges are made resulting in the elimination of
soldiers. A “challenge” is made when a soldier moves into the same square
occupied by an opposing soldier. When a challenge is made, the following rules of
elimination apply:

a. A higher ranked soldier eliminates a lower ranked soldier from the board.
b. If both soldiers are of equal, both are eliminated
Vision: We envision a God-centered community known for its academic excellence, holistic formation and pastoral orientation with Mary as
patroness and model.
Mission: We commit to produce highly competent graduates by providing a transformative education and formation to people of diverse Page 23 of 55

c. A spy eliminates any officer starting with the rank of 5-star General down to the
Seargeant.
d. The Flag can be eliminated or captured by any piece including the opponent’s flag.
e. Only a private can eliminate the spy.
f. The flag that moves into the same square occupied by the other flag wins the game.
• For maximum interest and suspense, a natural party (arbiter) is present to preside
over a challenge for both players. As arbiter, he is not allowed to reveal to either of
the player the ranks of any piece whether engaged in challenges or not. In case of a
challenge, the arbiter quietly removes the outranked piece and gives it back to the
player who has lost it. Care must be made that the eliminated piece is not shown to
the opponent.
• When playing without an arbiter, every time there is a challenge both players must
declare the ranks of the two opposing pieces concerned, after which the outranked
player removes his piece from the board.

How the Game Ends:

1. The game ends:
a. When the flag is eliminated or captured
b. When a flag reaches the opposite end of the board
c. When a player resigns
d. When both players agree on a drawn position
2. A Flag reaching the opposite end of the board may be still eliminated by an opposing piece
occupying a square adjacent to the one reached by the flag. In order to win, the flag should at
least be two square or two ahead of any opposing piece.

NEWS WRITING
MECHANICS & GUIDELINES

• Title/Headline - Make something that grabs the reader’s attention whilst staying
true to the topic you are writing. Usually, the title is a short but clear summary of
the topic in your news article.
• Arrangement of content - The information is arranged by descending importance.
Imagine an upside -down triangle, the widest part is the first paragraph containing
the most important details, the narrow parts are the supporting details; less
important stuff.
• Lead/1st Paragraph – It must be strong enough to get the reader’s attention and make
them want to read more. How you start the strong depends on the info, you can start
with a quote from a speaker or apply the 5W’s and 1H: What, Who, Where, When,
Why and How. Apply the arrangement of content, put the most important
information in the lead. Write this in the active voice except for arrests or deaths.
• Body - This supports your lead, it is composed of info and details that assist,
disagree or develop your topic such as quotes, data and photos.
• Conclusion/Tail - A summary of the contents of your article, or additional info that
is related to the topic and is usually the least important part.
• Referencing - When quoting someone the first time, use their full name. After that,
you may use their last name or any way they can identified the second time.
• Grammar - Good grammar and punctuation is a must in every news article.

Competition Mechanics:
1. Topic that you will write will be given during the contest proper by the assigned teacher. The
participant/s must wear their respective house color for identification. Failure to follow will lead
to deduction of points.

2. The member/s that will represent the team must be the one listed on the participant’s list. If a
sudden change was made, inform the SSG Officers with a reason, three hours before the

participant.

3. The participant/s must be at the designated location, 10 minutes before the commencement of
