1.

To what extent do you believe the supported, tested, and learned curricula for the various
disciplines play a role in improving the intentional curriculum?

It is important to have written curriculum, assuming that this curriculum is produced in a

manner that benefits students and teachers. Too often curriculum is produced to satisfy governing
boards or other stakeholders without the intention of actually establishing learning objectives and
a clear path to learning. Written curriculum is important because it helps in the organization of the
thought process; serving as a map for the teacher to follow as a way to obtain objectives. This is
important particularly in a school with curriculum disarray.

2. Do you feel that the intentional curriculum is prescriptive or descriptive, or a combination

of both? Why?

3. What roles do the recommended curriculum and hidden curriculum play in developing the
intentional curriculum?

There are several issues in the education system, especially in the curriculum field that affect
education The Recommended Curriculum provides a basic framework for the curriculum. It identifies the
key learning areas. It specifies the boundaries as well as the destination. So, it guides the curriculum
coordinator in formulating the academic standards to be achieved through various teaching-learning
programs. On the other hand, Hidden curriculum is one of the current controversial curriculum issues. Many
hidden curricular issues are the result of assumptions and expectations that are not formally communicated,
established, or conveyed within the learning environment. Thus, awareness of hidden curricular issues
becomes a consideration, which has negative and positive influences. To address this issue, we should
understand that the hidden curriculum plays a positive or negative role in the education system in
school; therefore, teachers have to be aware of it and how it appears in the school. It is hard and
impossible to observe what is hidden of the curriculum, so it is necessary to conclude or infer the
characters of the hidden curriculum. Cornbleth (1984) found that there are different elements that
impact to shape the hidden curriculum, such as teachers, students, society, knowledge, and
awareness.
