 Presumptive test for staphylococcus aureus
Baird-Parker medium (BP)
❖ Result: black shiny center, opaque zone around the colony and
clear zone around it.
❖ staphylococcus aureus may be present.
 Confirmatory test
1. Plasma coagulase test
❖ Result: coagulation of plasma.
❖ staphylococcus aureus is present.
 Confirmatory test
2. Catalase test
❖ Result: Bubbles appear.
❖ staphylococcus aureus is present.

3. Blood hemolysis test
❖ Result: complete hemolysis to the blood.
❖ staphylococcus aureus is present.
 Confirmatory test
4. Gram staining
❖ Result: violet staphylococcal (gram +ve bacteria).
❖ staphylococcus aureus is present.
