Contraflow In Global Media

Contraflow is an Indonesian word that means "against the flow" or "in two directions," as in
the growth of media in the global arena.
Contraflow refers to the evolution of media in the global globe as part of a cultural movement
that characterizes the flow of the global media market, which is rapidly expanding.
Countries north of the equator, such as Russia, Canada, and others in the region, are primarily
responsible for the movement of global media flows.
Meanwhile, countries on the bottom or in the south are developing and following the present
development in the northern portion of the country, with the exception of Australia.

The existence of this cultural movement is founded of diaspora, It means that an ethnic,
tribal, or individual's citizenship or residence has been transferred to another place or country,
but that this individual retains the customs of the tribe's origin, so that in his daily life, he
cannot be separated from the habits of the previous tribe or ethnicity, even though he has
lived in a new country or place for a number of years.
As a result, in the worldwide distribution of media, viewers on television channels are
consumed by individual distributions in regions and nations inhabited; for example, many
Indonesians are Dutch citizens but yet watch television channels aired by the Indonesian
government. The significant effect of globalization from northern nations, which are largely
industrialized countries, has changed global media culture.

In emerging nations like Indonesia, the flow of information and media has become simpler as
a result of globalization.
The applicable media flow pattern is similar to starting a new media firm in emerging nations
in order to increase its market and ensure the media's existence.

The significance of local expertise is today reflected in the function of cable television in
social and cultural development.
Not all western television shows may be accepted in Indonesian culture and society, and not
all facts and impressions given on television must be explained and utilized in social
situations, People who are not literate in the flow of information in the media, on the other
hand, will apply it in their daily lives, resulting in a cultural and social values crisis.
External effects on culture are inextricably linked, as evidenced by the processes of
commerce, proselytization, and migration. Contraflow in global media refers to the flow of
media or information consumed by the global public, regardless of the viewer's background
or customs. This flow is heavily influenced by northern countries, which are dominated by
developed countries and have a significant impact on developing countries. Countries in the
north that are still in the early stages of development.
