FINALLY

Heroes are recognized for their noteworthy services for the improvement of the nation and
unconditional sacrifice for their fellowmen.

In addition, qualifications for a certain recognition are only set by the man who has
imperfections. Hence, this man doesn’t have the right to judge a person for his own imperfections
especially if he has the guts to acquire it.

Dr. Jose P. Rizal used his pen to express his views against the ill-mannered Catholic priests while
Andres Bonifacio had his sword for his revolutionary actions to free us from the colonizers. They are just
two of the honored national heroes during those past years.

Ferdinand E. Marcos an authoritarian leader served the nation for 21 years from 1963-1984. In
this very long period of time under his governance nobody could tell that he had done nothing
significant for his countrymen but to order shoot to kill or death penalty without undergoing due
process.

Some would question his cruelty and immoral acts. However, these some are just few compared
to those few who were benefited with the jobs and opportunities opened as the economy progressed
for his credibility as an intelligent and firm leader.

Does Marcos really not deserve to be called a hero? And why until now his burial is such a big
issue especially among those anti-Marcos at first place?

Give ourselves a break and let’s stop arguing about him. He is dead and may he rest in peace.
The Supreme Court has released the approval and order for his burial in the “Libingan ng mga Bayani.”
Why not respect it? And why do we need to prolong the issue which happened more than two decades
ago?

We better move on and must learn from the past. Ceaseless arguments would not give any help
or change it for those are in the history now.

He is indeed a hero not because he sacrificed his life but he left indelible marks of his
accomplishments not only to the people but also to the nation.

Let’s stop asking others about what they have done good for their country instead we must ask
ourselves about what we can do to our own and beloved country.
