(( Deterioration And Machine Life of Low-voltage Breaker )3

The electric machine life is generally defined as follows: "the period until reliability and
safety in use cannot be maintained because of having less electrical and technical ability
due to various stress and deterioration as the years go by."
Even if within the range of life, deterioration or out of life may cause not only less react to
the change of load intensity but also mechanical accident. We'd like to ask you to update for
preventing an accident beforehand and for improving !.he reliabilily of power feeding.
A low-voltage breaker has such functions as open-shut in circuit, over currcnt , cut in
short-circuit current ,and cut in ground current.
The received factors while accomplishing these essential functions are as follows:
1. Electric factor
2. Mechanical factor
3. Thermal factor
4. Environmentalfactor received for 10n~-~eriod installation ,long use

These factors make low-voltage breaker deteriorate and exhaust the life. The open-shut
longevity of breaker cannot be depended on the used year alone. I t depends on the size of
energizing current ,the open-shut current ,the environment and the situation in use.
' Appropriate treatment should be done especially in a ship where is used under a hard
condition.
The content of troubles which can be forecaster due to deteriorated factor or deteriorated
phenomenon in low-voltage are shown to page 216,316. If these troubles are recognized, the
machine can be judged dead clearly. Even though the functions seem normally when you
don't use it for fill ratings ,there is a case that the basic performance might has been already
dead.
When you continue to use the dead low-voltage breaker,
1. Incapability of open-shut with abnormal rising temperature
2. Load equipment scorched
3. Power failure by sudden trip
4. Expansion of accident by over current due to inoperative removing
device
5. Incapability to operate
such serious troubles may happen ...

The diagnosis of a n expert is needed in above-mentioned cases. However ,as a general

standard, refer to page 416, we recommend you to renew giving priority to important circuit,
circuit having. a big influence a t an accident, circuit under the bad conditions among circuits
wbich exceed the number of regulated open-shut at regulated value.

Be sure to repair set-up elecb-ic devices when necessary, not only daily check or regular
check, to maintain the normal condition. When the measure is taken only in troubles, the
machine life might be shorten as well a s decreasing the machine ability.

[ 11 Fuse for wiring

The fuse considered to be normal as long as an element's electric cut does not happen.
Without performance check or preventive renew ,it is admitted the normal in preventive
maintainance, however, this is not perfect from a long-term viewpoint.
Be sure to do further preventive maintenance noting under-mentioned checkpoints for
keeping the machine for a long term.
1. When the contact part between fuse and folder becomes dirty, abnormal heat is
caused from the increase contact resistance with oxidation or rust, it is necessary
to repair or renew.
2. When the fuse melts ,as unmelted fuse in other side or other phase might be
deteriorated to some extent, it is necessary to exchange a good one as well as
melted fuse.
3. Be sure to limit the use period from 3 to 5 years and replace a new one for avoiding
unexpected fuse accident.
Reference: Normal Use State (JIS 8352)
(1) Do not give abnormal vibration or impact.
(2) Keep excessive steam, oil steam, smoke, dust salinity or corroded material away
from the air.

(21 Condenser
The declining operation rate due to breakdown can be avoided by taking suitable regular
maintenance as well as fuse.
(1) Caution
1. Please do not touch the condenser terminal directly.
2. Please do not be short - circuited by the conductor between the condenser
terminals.
3. Terminals may be broken or hurt the connection part of inside element when
strong power is added to the terminals or lead line.
4. Please do not use in a place where moisture and oil exist.
5. Please do not use in a place where ozone, ultraviolet ray, and radiation are
irradiated.
6. Please do not use in a place where such poisonous gas as sulfuretted hydrogen,
sub-sulfuric acid .sub-nitric acid ,chlorine, and ammonia permeate.
7. Please do not use in a place where excessive vibration or impact exist.
2'
(2) Maintenance Check

Please turn off the power supply and discharge saved electricity in condenser when you do
the maintenance check. Please cob the polarity when you use a tester beforehand. In
addition ,please do not stress to the lead terminal line at t h s time.

(3) Regular Check Item

1. Presence of remarkable external abnormality as liquid leakage etc.

2. Electric performanceQeakage current ,static electricity capacity)

Please c o d m the specfication of condenser and do an appropriate treatment like the

exchange when abnormality is recognized.
