Retablos
It comes from the Latin retro-tabula, literally meaning "behind the
altar," and originally it referred to paintings placed behind the altar
of churches in the early Middle Ages.
It is an upright panel, intricately carved and highly decorated. Its wooden
frame contains ledges and panels behind and above the altar.

The main feature of old Roman Catholic churches in the country is

the retablo, the altarpiece.

It has several niches for the patron saint, usually located in the
topmost portion. Other saints affiliated to the religious order
occupy both sides of the second and third levels.
Structure is embellished with decorative features such as
rosettes, grapevines, scrolls, solomonic columns and cherubs
and crafted by native artisans.
Santos
The word "santo" is derived from Spanish which means saints or
holy.

Philippine "santos" may also be Bas Relief or High Relief sculptures known
as "relieves" referring to images which are carved on a panel, slightly
raised form a flat background or highly raised making them almost three-
dimensional.

Philippines "santos" may also be painted on wooden panels, glass, cloth

or canvass which are called cuadros or printed on paper or cloth called
estampas.

Philippine santos have characteristically calm expressions with

heavy, dreamy eyelids associated with Buddhist imagery, with
tight, repeating pattern forms identified with Chinese styles.
So c i o f a c t s
The devotion of Filipinos on their Catholic religion does not only revolve around the church and
itsrituals but also on images of veneration known as "santos". We as Filipinos devoted our entire life
ondevoting our patrons that makes us believe that when we devoted our self to them, we feel safe
andsecure. That’s why as a catholic we are not only seeing saints on churches but also in our home
wherewe can offer and pray on a small single piece of altar or retablos and santos.

-“Santos” are representations of holy figures, such as Christ, the Virgin, the
Holy Family, or any one of a multitude of saints.
Retablos are painted religious images that depict stories from the bible,
saints and martyrs. santos connect to Sociofacts in much the same way as
retablos.
Retablos and Santos, is also known as retables. In the Catholic church, a retablo
is a wall decoration made of a series of paintings or mosaic images which
typically represent the events in the life of Christ.
And were two art forms that were used in the pre-Hispanic era of Mexico. They
are also known as retablo paintings and santos sculptures.
A santos (from Spanish secularized saint) is the name of an image supposedly
with the power to cure disease and protect crops.
People used him for worship or to honor. This habit has been passed down
to the present generation, which is why we still worship saints to show
respect
Retablos and santos are used to do four things. First, they are symbols of
religious devotion. Second, they are used in Catholic churches to bring relief
to the deceased who is part of the saint canonization process. Third, santos
are used as painters that can be used for retablos. Lastly, retablos have a
special place in art history among other reasons because they have been used
to mark important events such as the coronations of kings and queens of
different countries from the Middle Ages.
-The retablo is a pretty big wooden cross that has a carved-out figure of Christ or Mary, as well
as other figures, put upon it. It can be a work of art that often takes years to create, which is
why many people don't consider them art rather than religious items. This form of art was
made in Mexico and southern United States in the 1800s and 1900s.
Ment i f act
Retablos Santos are representations of several spiritual
images that have been placed on home altars for solitary
prayer, they are respected and are not supposed to be
worshiped in and of themselves. They served as
catalysts for said development of spiritual traits like as
love, respect, commitment, faith, sacrifice, and humility
toward the thing or person they symbolize. Idolization
was and still is displayed toward the images by bowing
or making the cross in its direction, kissing it, or putting
sacrifices, prayers, gifts, food, and candles in front of it.
Images of respected saints, such as those of Christ, the
Virgin Mary, the Holy Family, male and female saints,
and Archangels, are usually the focus.
Educational Impact
As a student, we build our faith and beliefs to God at home and by
going to church. It gives us hopes that we can conquer everything .
