Part A. Questions 1 and 2: Read a text aloud.
Directions: In this part of the test, you will read aloud the text on the screen. You will then seconds to

training.
Attention all passengers at Johnson Station. We are currently undergoing construction on

Part B. Question 3: Describe a picture
Directions: In this part of the test, you will describe the picture on your screen in as much detail as you
can. You will have 30 seconds to prepare your response. Then you will have 45 seconds to speak about the picture.
Sample Answer: This is a picture taken in a square of a big mall. In the center of this
picture, a man wearing a jacket and a backpack is walking past a wristwatch stall called Fossil.
At the front side of the stall, the store attendant is showing off some merchandise while three
people look on.
(On the left side of the picture, there is a couple romantically holding each other while
walking up the stairs. The place looks clean and quiet. It must be early in the morning like when
the mall has just opened.)
Part C. Questions 4-6: Respond to questions
Directions: In this part of the test, you will answer three questions. For each question, begin responding
immediately after the question has finished. No preparation time is provided. You will have 15 seconds to respond to
Questions 4 and 5 and 30 seconds to respond to Question 6.
Teacher: Imagine that an Italian marketing firm is doing research in your country. You have
agreed to participate in a telephone interview about a travel bag.

worn out and old.
What do you consider first when buying a travel bag?
Sample Answer: I first consider the color when I buy a travel bag. I like black because it hardly
gets dirty. Bags easily collect dust and dirt during trips. However, these things are not
noticeable on a black one. It allows me to use a bag with less worry and maintenance.

Part E. Question 10: Propose a solution
Directions: In this part of the test, you will be presented with a problem and asked to propose a solution.
You have 30 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to speak. In your response, make sure you show that you recognize a
problem and propose a way of dealing with the problem.

Teacher: Hello, this is Ethan Ballard, Director of Human Resources. I’m calling you since you are
the company’s Managing Director. As you know, the company will start recruiting at the end of
this month. I have posted job openings on many online job sites. Unfortunately, the number of
applicants has dropped over 40% from last year. Our company is planning to open another
factory then launch a new product line within six months. Therefore, I have to hire a number of
new employees as soon as possible. I urgently need to solve this problem or else next month our
current staff will have to work late at night. Could you give me some advice? I would appreciate
a return call. Thank you.
Sample Answer: Hello, Mr. Ballard. This is Sophia Anderson returning your call. I just received
your message. I understand you have worked hard to post job openings on numerous websites.
However, you are worried about the decreased number of applicants this year. Please don’t
worry because I will come up with a solution. I suggest that you participate in a job fair this
weekend. If you set up a booth as the representative of our company, many potential employees
will visit to obtain more information. Therefore you can meet and interview these people in
person to determine if they are suitable.

Part F. Question 11: Express an opinion
Directions: In this part of the test, you will give your opinion about a specific topic. Be sure to say as
much as you can in the time allowed. You will have 15 seconds to prepare. Then you will have 60 seconds to speak.
Teacher: Employers and companies should remunerate their staff and employees with adequate
vacation leave.
Use specific reasons or example to support your opinion.
Sample Answer: I disagree that a company should compensate hard working staff with sufficient
vacation leave. First, it will create competitive working conditions among workers who seek to
gain vacation leave. As long as the company compensates them with a lot of vacation leaves,
more workers will want to gain more vacation time and they will not enjoy tasks. As a result, the
staff will be under a lot of stress and become less efficient.
(The second reason is that employees will work late as a gesture of working hard. After some
time, they may become tired and get sick. Eventually, they will not need some vacation leave but
several days of sick leave. The company will have to spend cost to cover their medical treatment.
Based on this reason, I don’t think it is a good idea.)

Sample Answer:
I think that giving motivation is the most important skill to possess to be a successful manager.
There are several reasons to support my opinion. One is that managers can boost morale by
giving motivation to their employees. For example, last year, I worked at a café. At first, every
employee thought that there was no reward even if they worked hard. So they did their work
without passion. The café was dirty because nobody cared and the customers complained
because the clerks were not kind. One day, my manager, Tom, decided to motivate his employees.
He made an employee of the month award and the prize was a big bonus. After that, all the
employees worked really hard to get the bonus. Moreover, the café was able to get more profit.
This is the reason why I think that giving motivation is the most important skill to possess to be
a successful manager.

invited me to his house and showed me the audio-visual materials with fantastic graphics. I was
able to understand the subject really easily. Thanks to him and his computer, I was able to finish
