am the CFO of the bank. It is an honor for me to introduce the bank’s vision for 2013 to you. We
have been leading the financial field for the past 10 years in a row. I am sure you will grow along
with the bank. In just a moment, your trainers will distribute the schedule for this week’s
training.

Attention all passengers at Johnson Station. We are currently undergoing construction on

platforms 5 through 14. All trains headed for Dallas, Montgomery, and San Jose have been moved
to depart from platform 25. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope you have a safe trip.
Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Directions: In this part of the test, you will describe the picture on your screen in as much detail as you
can. You will have 30 seconds to prepare your response. Then you will have 45 seconds to speak about the picture.

Sample Answer: This is a picture taken in a square of a big mall. In the center of this
picture, a man wearing a jacket and a backpack is walking past a wristwatch stall called Fossil.
Teacher’s Manual Lesson 1 [TOEIC Speaking 7]

At the front side of the stall, the store attendant is showing off some merchandise while three
people look on.

(On the left side of the picture, there is a couple romantically holding each other while

Sample Answer: I usually buy a travel bag at a department store, because it has many bags and
choices of colors, sizes and brands.

Q#5 (no preparation/ respond immediately; 15 seconds to answer)

Do you want a new one or a used one?

Sample Answer: I want to buy a new one. I usually buy a fabric bag. A used fabric bag looks
worn out and old.

Q#6 (no preparation/ respond immediately; 30 seconds to answer)

What do you consider first when buying a travel bag?

Sample Answer: I first consider the color when I buy a travel bag. I like black because it hardly
gets dirty. Bags easily collect dust and dirt during trips. However, these things are not

Part E. Question 10: Propose a solution

Directions: In this part of the test, you will be presented with a problem and asked to propose a solution.
You have 30 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to speak. In your response, make sure you show that you recognize a
problem and propose a way of dealing with the problem.

Q#10 (30 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

Teacher: Hello, this is Ethan Ballard, Director of Human Resources. I’m calling you since you are
the company’s Managing Director. As you know, the company will start recruiting at the end of
this month. I have posted job openings on many online job sites. Unfortunately, the number of
applicants has dropped over 40% from last year. Our company is planning to open another
factory then launch a new product line within six months. Therefore, I have to hire a number of
new employees as soon as possible. I urgently need to solve this problem or else next month our
current staff will have to work late at night. Could you give me some advice? I would appreciate
a return call. Thank you.

Sample Answer: Hello, Mr. Ballard. This is Sophia Anderson returning your call. I just received
your message. I understand you have worked hard to post job openings on numerous websites.
However, you are worried about the decreased number of applicants this year. Please don’t
worry because I will come up with a solution. I suggest that you participate in a job fair this
weekend. If you set up a booth as the representative of our company, many potential employees
will visit to obtain more information. Therefore you can meet and interview these people in
person to determine if they are suitable.

(Otherwise, why don’t we use referrals from existing staff? You can ask all the employees to
recommend their friends or family who are suitable for this project. As they know their
qualifications, they will recommend the proper workers. Also, please contact the professors at a
number of national universities. They will recommend the proper students. If you want to
discuss this further, please feel free to contact me anytime. Good luck!)
Teacher’s Manual Lesson 1 [TOEIC Speaking 7]

Part F. Question 11: Express an opinion

Directions: In this part of the test, you will give your opinion about a specific topic. Be sure to say as
much as you can in the time allowed. You will have 15 seconds to prepare. Then you will have 60 seconds to speak.

Q#11 (15 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

Teacher: Employers and companies should remunerate their staff and employees with adequate
vacation leave.

Use specific reasons or example to support your opinion.

Sample Answer: I disagree that a company should compensate hard working staff with sufficient
vacation leave. First, it will create competitive working conditions among workers who seek to
gain vacation leave. As long as the company compensates them with a lot of vacation leaves,
more workers will want to gain more vacation time and they will not enjoy tasks. As a result, the
staff will be under a lot of stress and become less efficient.

(The second reason is that employees will work late as a gesture of working hard. After some
time, they may become tired and get sick. Eventually, they will not need some vacation leave but
several days of sick leave. The company will have to spend cost to cover their medical treatment.
Based on this reason, I don’t think it is a good idea.)
Teacher’s Manual Lesson 2 [TOEIC Speaking 7]

Part A. Questions 1 and 2: Read a text aloud.

will gladly answer any questions you may have at the end.

Q#2 (45 seconds to prepare; 45 seconds to read the text aloud)

Are you advancing in your career? Are you tired of your current job description? Are you looking

Starting on the left side of the picture, there is a boy with long hair. Next to him is his father, and

You have 30 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to speak. In your response, make sure you show that you recognize a
problem and propose a way of dealing with the problem.

Q#10 (30 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

Teacher: Hello, this is Lauren, the manager of the purchasing department. First of all, I’m happy,
to say that our sales are increasing significantly thanks to all the employees’ hard work. But this
morning, I receive a phone call from Camelot Foods, Inc. They said they want to raise the price of
their food supplies. They currently serve fresh ingredients to our restaurant at a reasonable price,
but due to the extended economic recession, there’s no choice except to raise the price. They
mentioned that especially the price of seafood might shoot up by almost 30%. If it is true, it will
raise our costs as well. Then we should be concerned about a significant decrease in sales. Please
tell me how can I respond to them and handle this problem. I would welcome any suggestions
from any of our employees. Thank you.

Sample Answer: Hello, Lauren. This is Hudson, a waiter at the restaurant. I received your voice
message saying that you are facing some problems with our current food suppliers with
increasing costs. Here are some of my suggestions:

Let us search the Internet for new food suppliers. We could pick some and compare prices. I’m
sure we can get some options from those.

Or how about going directly to a fisheries market? We could reduce the retail margin by then,
and we’ll have fresher supplies than before.

I know these would be a lot of work and require adjustment, but our problem could be solved
without increasing our costs and not lose any customers. I hope I was able to open up new ideas.
I am also willing to help in these areas as well, just call for me.

Q#11 (15 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

Teacher: When making a difficult decision whose opinion do you usually ask?

*Family *Friends *Teachers

Give specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

Sample Answer:

When I make a difficult decision, I usually ask…

*my family, simply because my family knows me very well. For example, about a year ago, I was
looking for a job. At first, I didn’t know what to do. So I decided to ask my family members. First,
my father advised me to focus on one thing. He said that I was trying to do too many things at the
same time. It was really good advice. And then, I asked my mother. She advised me to apply for a
job in marketing. She said that I was really creative when I was a child and she believed that I
would do well if I worked in that field. With their advice, I decided to apply to one company in
the marketing field. Thanks to their support, I was able to focus on what to prepare and I
succeeded in getting a job in the marketing field. I am really satisfied with the results.

*my friends, because my friends are honest with me. For example, about a year ago, I was looking
for a job. At first, I thought that I could do whatever I wanted to. Everybody around me said I
have the passion to achieve anything. So I applied to every company that I wanted. I had high
standards of salary, environment, and so on. However, getting a job was really hard. I failed every
time. So I asked my friends. They advised me that I was overestimating myself. And they told me
to look back at myself and think in a more realistic way. After that, I changed my mind and my
standards. Thanks to their advice, I was able to get the right job for me and I am really enjoying
it.

Teacher: Hi, this is Charlie Hamilton. I’m a tenant living on the seventh floor of this building. I
moved here four months ago and I enjoy living here because of my good neighbors. However, I
have a problem and I’m calling because you are the apartment manager. This summer is very hot,
so I open my windows a lot. The problem is that the wind blows a funny smell into my room. I
didn’t want to complain, but the smell has continued for a whole week. As an apartment
manager, please let me know what you can do about this situation. I would appreciate a return
call. Thank you.

Sample Answer: Hello, Mr. Hamilton, this is Lily Graham, the apartment manager, returning
your call. I received your message and understood you are having trouble with a funny smell. I
am sorry to hear this. After checking the apartment’s back yard, I found the bad smell comes
from the trash bins. There is food waste rotting out there. Please don’t worry because I will
move the trash bins farther. I will have them moved to the back fence and also put lids on the
bins.

Thank you for informing us about this concern. Please let me know the soonest if this solved the
problem. Thank you.

Teacher: To be a successful manager, what is the most important skill to possess?

*Giving motivation *Assigning work *Training new employees

Give specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

Sample Answer:

I think that giving motivation is the most important skill to possess to be a successful manager.
There are several reasons to support my opinion. One is that managers can boost morale by
giving motivation to their employees. For example, last year, I worked at a café. At first, every
employee thought that there was no reward even if they worked hard. So they did their work
without passion. The café was dirty because nobody cared and the customers complained
because the clerks were not kind. One day, my manager, Tom, decided to motivate his employees.
He made an employee of the month award and the prize was a big bonus. After that, all the
employees worked really hard to get the bonus. Moreover, the café was able to get more profit.

This is the reason why I think that giving motivation is the most important skill to possess to be
a successful manager.

Teacher: Hi, this is Ryan Jarvis, the event coordinator for the yearly Squash Festival. As you
know this festival is held every year for our local residents. We have people of all ages join us in
the festivities. Every year we have children and adults stop by the festival and have a great time.
The festival is also a great opportunity for new members in our community to come out and
socialize to make new friends. Unfortunately, over the past few years we have been very low on
attendance. This is causing us to lose a lot of money. Without profits it is hard to continue the
festival every year. We have been trying new things to increase attendance, but it hasn’t been so
successful. The Squash Festival is a very historical event in the area and has been held every year
for the past 50 years. If we aren’t able to increase attendance, we may lose funding and have to
shut down the festival forever. I thought that since you are my director you would be the best
person to speak about this problem. I know you have some history in dealing with problems like
this and I really want to hear your ideas. Again, this is Ryan Jarvis and you can reach me at 555-
9321. Thank you and talk to you soon! Bye!

Sample Answer: Hello, this is Emily Yates. I got your message saying that you are in charge of the
yearly Squash Festival held in our community. However, there is a problem because not many
people are coming to this festival. So you’d like for me to check on this matter.

First of all, I am sorry to hear about this sad news. However, I am happy to say that there is a way
to help you out. After checking into the situation, I came up with the following solutions.

I think it is a good idea to make some posters and banners about this festival and all the events
which will be held. It could be really helpful to inform people about the Squash Festival. And
moreover, why don’t we hold a squash pie contest? Many people are interested in food activities,
so more people would come.

These are my suggestions. If you need more help, feel free to call me back anytime. Good luck.
Bye.

Teacher: Some companies prefer to hire experienced workers to increase productivity rather than
young and inexperienced workers. Which do you prefer and why?

Use specific reasons or examples to support your opinion.

Sample Answer: I prefer to hire young and inexperienced workers rather than experienced
workers in order to increase productivity. There are several reasons to support my opinion. First
of all, young and inexperienced employees tend to be very enthusiastic. Most of them are full of
passion, so they are willing to dedicate themselves to their work. As a result, they can motivate
their co-workers and improve company productivity.

first. I love action movies very much.

Teacher: Hi, this is Natalie Randall from the Marketing department. As you know, our company
will launch a new shampoo next month. I believe this product will attract many customers after
its release. Unfortunately, we may not make a large profit because we are a newcomer in the hair
product market. In addition, we are not well known among customers. I do not know how to
promote this new product. That’s why I’m asking your advice, as you are our sales director. I
hope you have many useful ideas for promotion strategies. Please contact me as soon as possible
at extension 513. Thank you.

Sample Answer: Hello, Ms. Randall. This is Sean Donovan calling you back. I listened to your
message saying you need ideas on how to promote our new shampoo. I understand we might not
earn a lot after releasing the hair product next month, simply because we are a new comer in the
market and many people don’t know our company.

Please do not worry. I have some suggestions. Let’s organize a launch event to reveal the new
product, and then give away free samples to all the customers. That way they will understand
how good the shampoo is for their hair. I think it would definitely make a good impression on
people.

(We could also attach a discount coupon on each item. The economy nowadays makes people
sensitive to prices.)

If you want more details, please feel free to call me anytime. Good luck to you. Bye.

Internet advertising is the most effective way to reach target customers.

Give specific reasons and details to support your opinion.

Sample Answer: I agree that Internet advertising is the most effective way to reach target
customers. There are several reasons to support my opinion. Most of all, people tend to find their
information on the internet nowadays. For example, about a month ago, I wanted to buy soccer
cleats. I heard that the Internet is the best way to get information about sports gear and buy it.
So I searched for soccer cleats online. I compared the prices, qualities, and so on. I had a hard
time choosing one among many different brands. Eventually, I found a nice review on soccer
cleats made by All Football. It introduced a lot of needed features and enhancement. It also
provided links to their advertisements. It seemed like so many superstars liked them too. So I
bought the soccer cleats from All Football. I was satisfied with my choice. This is the reason why
I think Internet advertising is the most effective way to reach target customers.

Q#6 (no preparation/ respond immediately; 30 seconds to answer)

Would you consider going on vacation alone to a foreign country?

Sample Answer: Yes, I would. I think it is more comfortable. Last year, I was thinking about

was a little uncomfortable because we had to always talk about what we would do. We had

Q#10 (30 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

Teacher: Hello, this is Adam, your assistant. As you know, we are scheduled to host a book
launching event with several famous authors. We have been advertising the event and I even
made some posters to get as many people as possible. We put the posters up everywhere a couple
of weeks ago. Everything was going really well until I noticed something was wrong. I saw some
posters and noticed I mistakenly put the wrong date on them. The event is supposed to be on
Tuesday, April 25th but I accidentally put Friday, April 27th. We don’t have a lot of time left to
advertise the book release event and I’m very worried that unless we fix this problem
immediately nobody will attend. This could be a huge disaster for our store’s reputation with
both our customers and the famous authors. Since you are my manager, I was hoping you could
give me some advice on how to fix this problem. As you know, there isn’t a lot of time left so
please call me back soon as you hear this message. Thank you! Bye!

Sample Answer: Hello. This is Bella. I got your message saying that you are in charge of
organizing the book launching event. However, there is a problem because the dates on the
posters are wrong. So you’d like for me to check on this matter.

First of all, I am sorry to hear about the situation. However, I am happy to say that there is a way
to help you out. After checking into the situation, I came up with a couple of solutions.

First of all, I think it is a good idea to create a television advertisement. This way, we can inform
many people about the change of date. Also, why don’t you send e-mails or call everyone who
bought tickets already. It would be effective, too.

These are my suggestions. If you need more help, feel free to call back anytime. Good luck. Good
bye.

Q#11 (15 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

Teacher:

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

The government should spend money on building more theaters.

Use specific reasons or example to support your opinion.

Sample Answer: I agree that the government should spend money on building more theaters.
There are some reasons to support my opinion. First, the government will manage the theater
more efficiently. To specify, the government will pour more funds into the theaters compared to
privately owned companies. Theaters can make a long-range budget plan with large government
funding. The field might be developed and organized systematically. The locals can comfortably
enjoy many cultural events.

Secondly, people will be able to enjoy cultural performances at affordable prices. More
specifically, if the government builds more venues capable of musical performances, concert
ticket prices will fall. Cheap concert tickets allow people to enjoy plays or concerts more often.

For this reason, I strongly agree that the government should invest money in building more
theaters.

You have 30 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to speak. In your response, make sure you show that you recognize a
problem and propose a way of dealing with the problem.

Q#10 (30 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

Teacher: Hello, my name is Quinn Larson and I work at Global Gym in the downtown area of
Montgomery City. As you know, we have people of all ages and different backgrounds as gym
members. Recently, we had some demands from our members for new kinds of exercise
programs. I made some group exercise programs, such as yoga and aerobics classes to fulfill their
needs. People who have participated in these new classes are saying great things about the
program. The thing is that these programs are offered only to people who have signed up for our
yearly membership. But I am pretty sure that the non-members would be interested in these
programs, too. So I am thinking of some effective ways to introduce these new programs to as
many people as possible. I want to make this into a good marketing strategy so we can gain more
members. Since you are in charge of marketing and promotions at our gym, I was hoping to talk
about this matter with you directly. So please call back as soon as possible at extension 12.
Thanks. Bye.

Sample Answer: Hello, this is Nathaniel. I got your message saying that you are working at the
gym and have designed group exercise classes. However, there is a problem because not many
people know about these programs. So you’d like for me to check on this matter.

First of all, I am happy to hear the news that you have some great new programs and I am happy
to say that there is a way to help you out. After checking into the situation, I came up with a few
solutions.

For starters, I think it is a good idea to make a video clip about your new exercise programs.
More people, gym-users and passers-by, will see it and might get interested. Or why don’t you
try opening the classes to all members? I believe more people would come and learn about this
new program then.

These are my suggestions. If you need more help, feel free to call me back anytime. Thanks. Bye.

Teacher: What is an important factor an employee should have for work success? Choose one of
the following options and give specific reasons or examples to support your opinion.

• Sense of humor
• Good looks
• Responsibility

Sample Answer: I think the most important factor an employee should have for work success is
responsibility. I have some reasons to support my opinion. The main reason is that responsible
workers do not pass their own tasks on to others. Responsible people handle tasks by
themselves. They do not want to burden other people because other people have their own
duties. If the deadline for work is sooner than expected, they finish the job alone working
overnight. They never redistribute this burden to other people. Another reason is that
responsible workers accumulate knowledge very quickly. To be specific, they do the work by
themselves. This means they have more knowledge and skills. For this reason, I think employees
need to have a sense of responsibility for workplace success.

Teacher: Hello, this is Brooke. As you may know, our company is holding its year-end party this
week. As I am the designated manager for this event, I have many things to do, such as reserving
cafeteria and sending invitations. Unfortunately, we have a problem finding a suitable location
for the party. I can’t find a hotel where we can hold the party within our current budget. All the
banquet halls I could reserve are too expensive. I urgently need to resolve this problem, as I have
only four days to prepare. You were in charge of our year-end party last year, so I thought you
might be able to help me find a good solution. Please call me back if you have any ideas. Thank
you.

Sample Answer: Hello, this is Jake Bowers returning your call. I receive your message saying you
are having trouble finding a place for our year-end party. You also told me that most of the hotels
in the city don’t have any vacant halls or rooms. Don’t worry. I can recommend the Xanthous
Hotel, which is located near the airport. Since the hotel is about 10km from the city, they have
lower pricing for their halls. If you want to book a hall, they can offer one of their gorgeous
banquet halls at a reasonable price. I will fax you the information about the hotel.

Otherwise why don’t we hold the party in the cafeteria of our company? Even though it is not
that fancy, we could hold the event without paying a fee. At the same time, we could hold a fund
raising event to add to our current budget. If we sell some used items, we could make money. If
you need more assistance, please call me anytime. Good luck to you. Bye.

Teacher:

If you get a big bonus, what would you spend your extra money on?

*Buying clothes *Improving health *Enjoying a hobby

Give specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

Sample Answer:

If I get a big bonus, I would spend my extra money on...

Buying clothes

There are several reasons to support my opinion. Most of all, I can feel refreshed and get rid of my
stress if I buy new clothes. For example, about two years ago, I worked at ABC Company. It was
really famous for making their staff work hard. The team projects were especially really hard.
One time there was a team project for customer satisfaction. I had to do many surveys with the
customers. There was a lot of data to analyze so I had to stay at work every night for a week. It
was really stressful. After I finished the project, I got a big bonus. With the money, I went
shopping at a department store. There were so many fancy clothes. I tried them on and enjoyed
shopping. I bought many items from the store. The next day, I went to work with my new fancy
clothes and I felt really refreshed. Thanks to the shopping. I was able to get rid of my stress.
Improving health

There are several reasons to support my opinion. Most of all, health is the most important thing in my life. For
example, about two years ago, I worked at ABC Company. I worked really hard and got a big bonus. At first, I spent
the money to enjoy my life. I hung out with my friends and drank a lot. It was really good. I didn’t care about my
health. One day, I felt really sick so I went to the hospital. After some treatments, a doctor said that my health
condition had worsened because of all the alcohol. I was not able to keep working. So I had to quit my job. I spent all
my savings on hospital bills. After several surgeries and months of treatment, I recovered. And now I am working
again. I am thankful for my healthy body and I feel happier than before.

Enjoying a hobby

There are several reasons to support my opinion. Most of all, I can get rid of my stress by enjoying a hobby. For
example, about two years ago, I worked at ABC Company. The work was really hard so it was really stressful. I had to
stay at work all night very often and had many arguments with the other employees. One day, I got a big bonus
because I was selected as the employee of the year. So I decided to go camping since it was my hobby. I prepared many
things for my trip. I bought a new talent and equipment for it. I was really happy. I went to a camping site with my
friends and had a really awesome time. I really enjoyed the nature and breathed the fresh air. I was able to get rid of my
stress.

This is the reason why I would spend my extra money on (buying clothes.)

Teacher: Hello, this is Dr. Kate Murphy at Philly Family Clinic. As you know, we have been in
business for over twenty years. Our clinic has always been a big part of the community and
business was very good. We always had our regular customers and they always brought their
family members to our clinic. Things couldn’t have been going any better. However, lately we
have been getting fewer customers at the clinic. Also, it seems that most of our customers are
elderly men and women now. This has become a very big concern for us here at Philly Family
Clinic. I have been trying to think of ways to increase our business and attract more children to
our clinic. I have already tried several things but they have been unsuccessful. I’m afraid that if I
don’t make some changes soon, my clinic will be in danger of shutting down. I have been
watching the clinic lose business each month for the past year and I’m not sure what else I can
do. That is why I am calling you. I know that you have a lot of experience in making business
decisions. I was hoping that we could sit down together and discuss some ideas on how to revive
my clinic. I know that with your knowledge you can help me turn things around. Once again,
this is Dr. Kate Murphy and you can call me on my mobile. My number is 854-5901. I look
forward to hearing from you. Thank you!

Sample Answer: Hello Kate. This is Curtis. I got your message saying that you are a doctor at
Philly Family Clinic. However, there is a problem because you have been getting fewer
customers. So you’d like for me to check on this matter.

First of all, I am sorry to hear about the situation. However, I am happy to say that there is a way
to help you out. After checking into the situation, I came up with the following solutions.

First of all, why don’t you make a program for children’s healthcare? It should be helpful to
attract more patients with children. Also, it is a good idea to make some cartoon advertisements
for your clinic. It could be helpful to gain children’s interest, since children like cartoons.

These are my suggestions. If you need more help, feel free to call me back any time. Thank you.
Bye.

Q#11 (15 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

Teacher:

Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

A lot of people have much more interest in their health now than in the past.

Please support your opinion with reasons and examples.

Sample Answer:

I agree that a lot of people have much more interest in their health now than in the past. The first
reason is that as life expectancy is getting prolonged, people have more concerns about their
health. Just living long is not a problem to them, but the bottom line is how well they live and
maintain good health. As people have the desire to live a healthy life, at the same time they fear
being affected by any serious disease, so they have a lot more interest in their health. In addition
to that, these days, people have more spare time and money. They want to spend it boosting
their standard of living, and to do so, a necessary condition might be staying in good condition
with regard to their health. Money, family, and life itself have no meaning without health. As
they want to live well, they spend much more time and money to keep fit and healthy above all.
This is the reason why I think many people today are so concerned with maintaining their good
health.

Q#10 (30 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

Teacher:

Hello, Ms. McKenzie. This is Brody from the Human Resource department. We had a huge job
opening for several weeks. Luckily, many job seekers showed their interest in our company, so
next Monday we will have over 100 job interviews. However, I have a huge concern. I think
there might be some parking problems on our interview today. These days as more and more
employees commute by car, our employees have complained about a shortage of parking spaces.
Under this circumstance, there might be no parking places to accommodate all the interviewees.
With only a few days left, I know it is impossible to build a parking lot but as you are the boss,
please tell me how I should handle this problem.

Sample Answer:

Hello, Brody at the Human Resource Department. I heard your message asking for some ideas on
how to deal with the parking lot problem on our interview day. To solve the problem, why don’t
we ask our employees not to drive their own cars on that day? I know they feel it is inconvenient
but there’s no other way. They should understand that we can’t construct a new parking lot
within a few days. Also I think you’d better explain how important it is to hire new recruits this
year. Then, they will be more willing to put up with the discomfort on that day.

Otherwise, why don’t we also encourage job interviews to get here by public transportation? If
they can be reimbursed for the transportation fare from our company, they will be willing to
travel not by their own cars but by bus or subway. I know it costs a lot. However, it is less
costly than building or renting additional parking spaces. If you need more help from me, please
don’t hesitate to call me any time.

Teacher:

Do you agree or disagree that students should have the most up-to-date computers to be
successful at school?

Please provide specific details and reasons to support your opinion.

Sample Answer:

I agree that students should have the most up-to-date computers to be successful at school.

There are several reasons to support my opinion. Most of all, students can use many audio-visual
materials for their studies. For examples, when I was in high school, I had an old computer. All I
could do was use a word processing program. One day, there was an assignment on Earth
Science. However, I didn’t have any knowledge about it. At first, I tried to study with some
books. However, everything was described only with text so it was hard to understand.
Eventually, I found that there was an education program for the subject. However, my computer
was too old for the program. I asked my friend, who had an up-to-date computer, to help. He
invited me to his house and showed me the audio-visual materials with fantastic graphics. I was
able to understand the subject really easily. Thanks to him and his computer, I was able to finish
the assignment.
