The father of algorithm and algebra
Abu abdullah Muhammed bin Musa al-khwarizmi, was a Persan scientist,
mathematician, and author. He was born in 780BC in persia (now uzbekistan). His family
moved soon afterward, to a place near Baghdad, where he accomplished most oh his work in
the period between 813 and 833. All of Al- Khawarizmi’s works were written in Arabic.

He developed the concept of the algorithm in mathematics, and the words  « algorithm »
comes from Latin and English corruptions of his name. He also made major cobtributions to
the fields of algebra, trigonometry, astronomy, geography and cartography.

While his major contributions were the result of original research, he also did musch to
combine the existing knowledge in these fields from Greek India, and other sources. He
appropriated the symbol of zero, which originated in India, and he is also responsible for the
use of Arabic numerals in mathematics.

Al- khawarizmi organized and corrected Ptolemy’s research in geography, using his
own original findings. He created a map of the « known word which made an indelible mark
on the development of science in the West. He died in 845 BC being remembered as one of the
