Caterpillar Generator Set Ratings

________________________________________________________________________

All ratings are based on SAE J1349 standard conditions. These ratings also apply at
ISO3046/1, DIN6271 and BS5514 standard conditions. Typical Load Factor is the sum
of the loads a generator set experiences while it is running under load divided by the
number of hours it operates under those loads. Extended idling time and the time when
the generator set is not operating does not enter into the calculation for the load factor.

Standby Rating: Typical Load Factor = 60% or less

Typical Hours/Years = 100 hours
Typical Peak Demand = 80% of standby rated kW with 100% of
rating available for the duration of an
emergency outage
Typical Application = Building Service Standby and
Enclosure/Sheltered Environment

Prime Rating: Typical Load Factor = 60 – 70 %

Typical Hours/Years = No Limit
Typical Peak Demand = 100% of prime rated kW used
occasionally, but for less than 10% of
operating hours
Typical Application = Industrial or Pumping or Construction or
Peak Shaving or Co-Generation

Continuous Rating: Typical Load Factor = 70 – 100 %

Typical Hours/Years = No Limit
Typical Peak Demand = 100% of continuous rated kW for 100%
of operating hours
Typical Application = Base Load or Utility or Co-Generation

Note:

• For conditions outside the above limits, please contact EPG Application Engineering.

• Operating units above these rating definitions will result in shorter life to overhaul.
Olympian Generator Set Rating Definitions

Prime Rating

Applicable for supplying continuous electrical power (at variable load) in lieu of
commercially purchased power. There is no limitation to the annual hours of
operation and the generator set can supply 10% overload power for 1 in 12 hours.

Standby Rating

Applicable for supplying continuous electrical power (at variable load) in the
event of a utility power failure. No overload is permitted on these ratings. The
generator is peak rated (as defined in ISO8528-3) at 86o F.

This applies to Standby Generator Sets where the Generator Arrangement in the
performance data tables is defined as OLY-PR.

Standby Rating

Applicable for supplying continuous electrical power (at variable load) in the
event of a utility power failure. No overload is permitted on these ratings.

This applies to Standby Generator Sets where the Generator Arrangement in the
performance data tables is defined as OLY-BR.
