HISTORY
Important Days
World Patient Safety Day
▪ World Patient Safety Day calls for global solidarity and concerted action by all countries and
international partners to improve patient safety. It is observed every year on September 17.
▪ The Day was first established in May 2019 when the World Health Assembly passed a resolution on
global action on patient safety.
▪ “Medication Safety” has been chosen as the topic for World Patient Safety Day 2022, with the
theme ‘Medication Without Harm’.
Awards and Honours
9th Edition of national INSPIRE Award
▪ The 9th National Level Exhibition and Project Competition (NLEPC) of INSPIRE Awards – MANAK
(Million Minds Augmenting National Aspirations and Knowledge) was inaugurated at ITPO, Delhi where
the exhibits of 556 students from schools across the country were displayed.
▪ A novel multipurpose cooking tool designed by Danish Ahmad Bhat, class 8th student of Government
Upper Primary School, Machipora, Handwara of Kupwara District has been chosen as one of the top
60 innovations.
Note:
▪ Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) scheme is a flagship under the
Department of Science & Technology (DST) that aims to motivate students in the age group of 10-
15 years studying in classes 6 to 10.
▪ The Annual INSPIRE Awards – MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspirations and
Knowledge) presented as a collaboration between National Innovation Foundation – India (NIF) and
DST is presented to motivate and promote innovative novel ideas among the students.
Sports and Games
Chennai Open
▪ The Chennai Open – a WTA 250 International Women’s Tennis Championship 2022 – was
concluded at the SDAT Stadium, in Nungambakkam which is the first-ever WTA event in Chennai.
▪ The TN government was the lead sponsor for the $250,000 (about ₹2 crore) events.
▪ President of the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association - Vijay Amritraj.

JIMEX 2022
▪ The sixth edition of Japan-India Maritime Exercise 2022 (JIMEX 22), hosted by the Indian Navy,
was concluded in the Bay of Bengal.
▪ The Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) ships are being led by Rear Admiral Hirata Toshiyuki,
Commander Escort Flotilla Four, and Indian naval ships by Rear Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer
Commanding Eastern Fleet.
Note:
▪ JIMEX 22 involves Two Phases – exercises at sea and a harbour phase at Visakhapatnam.
▪ 2022 edition marks the 10th Anniversary of JIMEX, which began in Japan in 2012. It also coincides
with the 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between India and Japan.

Govt – Welfare oriented Govt schemes, their utility
Kritagya Hackathon 3.0
▪ Kritagya Hackathon 3.0 on "Speed Breeding for Crop Improvement" was announced by the Indian
Council of Agricultural Research with its National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) and
Crop Science Division
▪ KRI-TA-GYA explains, KRI for Krishi (Agriculture), TA for Taknik (Technology) and GYA for Gyan
(Knowledge). This event will give an opportunity to the students / faculties / entrepreneurs / innovators
and others to showcase their innovative approaches & technology solutions to promote speed
breeding for crop improvement to ensure overall sustainability and resilience in crop production in
India.
Note:
▪ ICAR commenced NAHEP with the assistance of World Bank (WB) in November 2017. The overall
objective of NAHEP is to support participating Agricultural Universities (AUs) and ICAR in providing
more relevant and Higher Quality Education to the students.

ECONOMICS
Current Trends in Indian Economy
Net Direct Tax Collections Rise 23% So Far In 2022-23
▪ Net direct tax collections so far, this financial year are at ₹ 700,669 crore, an increase of 23 per
cent as compared to ₹ 568,147 crore till the same period of the corresponding financial year.
▪ The total includes corporation tax of ₹ 368,484 crore and personal income tax (including securities
transaction tax) worth ₹ 330,490 crore.
▪ The speed of processing of income tax returns too rose this fiscal year.
▪ Refunds amounting to ₹ 135,556 crore have been issued so far against refunds of
₹ 74,140 crore being issued during the corresponding period in the preceding Financial Year 2021-
22, showing a growth of around 83 per cent.

TAMIL NADU - AFFAIRS


Pulavar posts to be revived in Temples
▪ The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endow- ments (HR&CE) Department is in the process of reviving
the post of Tamil pundits or pulavars in temples.
▪ The Pulavar who were initially appointed 21 years ago with the aim of propagating the meaning of
religious texts, hymns, and practices among devotees in temples but now they had been deployed
for other works like writing accounts and selling tickets in counters.
▪ Among the duties of the pulavars is to explain how Kumbabhishekam can be conducted in Ta-mil.
They have to give religious discourses during crowded days, con-duct classes for children on texts
including Thirumurai and Pasurams
▪ The pulavars need to have at least a diploma in Tamil literature.
