1. Explain the relationship between quality and competitiveness.

The relationship between quality and competitiveness is that it recognizes the demands
and desires of the consumer. The quality of an organization's products and services influences its
competitiveness with competitors. Organizations that understand how to produce high-quality
products and services understand how it affects the perceived performance and competitiveness
of the organization. A company will not be regarded competitive if it lacks quality. These two must
always be present in order for an organization to deliver competitive, high-quality products and
services that will overall satisfy the customer.

2. Explain the evolution of quality management practices in Asian countries.

In 1980’s, the company in Asia started to create a Quality Control Circle (QCC) to have
better interaction between employees and encourage people to participate in the continual
improvement of the process and products of the organization. In the 1990s, several companies
adopted the principles of Total Quality Management (TQC) which uses techniques to promote
product and service quality. During the 2000s, Asian countries adopted international standards to
ensure effective environmental management. The evolution of quality management practices in
Asian countries helps companies throughout Asia apply these strategies to maximize
performance, value, and quality.
