An Aneroid Barometer is used to measure atmospheric pressure. It is the best
type of barometers as it is small and easy to carry around. It is mostly used by sailors to track whether changes and get prepared for a storm (if the atmospheric pressure is going down significantly, it shows that there is going to be a storm/bad weather). It was invented by French scientist Lucien Vidi in 1844. But it has one disadvantage, the reading which it shows is not accurate; It can only be used to predict bad weather. PARTS: Unlike mercury barometer, aneroid barometer has a complex machinery. The aneroid capsule is a partially vacuum box made up of an alloy of beryllium and copper. It moves when pressure is inserted on it. A lever made up of stainless steel and jewelled bearings is used to turn the spindle and pointer. The pointer can be made of anything. The box is made up of brass. WORKING: The aneroid capsule is the main part of the module, as the atmospheric pressure is measured by tracking the changes of pressure on the capsule. The lever is connected to the capsule such that if the capsule expands or contracts, it moves the spindle from a metal spring. The spindle is connected to the pointer which shows the reading by the markings on the dial. The barometer needs to be assembled carefully after analysis of the contraction and expansion of the capsule, temperature differences, and the mechanical linkage between the capsule and the pointer.
