Wind Vane

A wind vane is a meteorological instrument used to find the direction of wind. It

was invented by Greek astronomer Andronicus in 48 BC. It is also called
weathervane or weathercock. It consists of a fin and arrow. The fin points
towards the direction where the wind is going to, while the arrow shows the
direction where the wind is blowing from. For example, a wind which is
blowing from the north to south makes the arrow point to the north direction
and it is called north wind.
PARTS & WORKING:
The wind vane usually has a cock symbol above it, and direction markings
below it. It consists of a fin and arrow. Usually, cold air is located in the north
and warm air is located in the south. Seeing the direction of the blowing wind,
we can say what type of wind is blowing. Also, a modified version of it, called
the wind sock, is used by pilots to show the speed and direction of the wind
blowing. Usually, a wind vane and anemometer are attached together to make
an all-in-one instrument.
