This activity is about observing and gathering data to find out how student diversity affects learning. To realize the Intended Learning Outcomes, work your way through these steps: Step 1. Observe a class in different parts of a school day. (beginning of the day, class time, Tecess, etc.) - Step 2. Describe the characteristics of the leamers in terms of age, gender, and social and cultural diversity, Step 3. Describe the interaction that transpires inside and outside the classroom. Step 4. Interview your Resource Teacher about the principles and practices that she uses in dealing with diversity in the classroom. Step 5. Find out the number of students. Gather data as to their ages, gender, racial groups, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. During class: 1, How much interaction is there in the classroom? Describe how the students interact with one another and with the teacher, Are there groups that interact more with the teacher than others. 2. When the teacher talks in front giving discussions or instructions the ©» students just listen and answer when just asked by the teacher, but when they are given a task or activity they usually inquire casually for 7 information from their teacher or to their seatmates to share answers, | 2. Yes, I was seated together with students in the back, and I observed that | seldom of them listen to the discussion and most of them are just talking | with their seatmates, doing extracurricular things, or using phones, and | lastly, I observe that the students in the front often interact more than the | students in the back. | 3. For the three sections that I observe the students often cooperate than compete against each other. 4. Academically active students, and who understand the topic, or love the Subject tend to be more involved than others. 5. My cooperating teacher had an oral recitation for the subject ‘mathematics, and I observe that students are afraid to be called especially } if they do not know the answer or are afraid that they might answer wrong, and if a student is called and can't give an answer the other students are just waiting for their tur to be called particularly to those students who knows the answer. Outside Class 1. As observe, usually the student's group according to their preferences, for example, they have the same like in music, or they are a fan of anime. 2, Students who are alone just sit in chairs sleeping or listening to music, they are just timid and stay in one area of the room, Interview a ‘According to my cooperating teacher, he honestly told me that he doesn't have | specific strategies for the learner with diverse characteristics, but he shared that before he had students with different cultures and he had the same approach with the whole class, he also added that in making lesson, or activities you must be sure that there is no gender bias, or just a specific religion/culture stated, "just make sure na wala kang pinapatamaan na specific culture or gender in making activities’.
