Discuss one from among the four ethical principles of communication. Give an
authentic example that is happening today.
We endorse freedom of expression, diversity of perspective, and tolerance of dissent
to achieve the informed and responsible decision making fundamental to a civil society. Only
when all members of society are given the ability to openly express their ideas and opinions can
responsible decisions be made. Our civilization depends on freedom of expression, diversity of
viewpoints, and tolerance of dissent. Furthermore, it argues that diverse viewpoints are
necessary for a democratic society, particularly those that contradict conventional wisdom,
because if everyone only listened to one source of information, we would be susceptible to
manipulation and control. This is because humans have a propensity to easily become ensnared
by their own beliefs, viewpoints, and even words. I think that people should be open to hearing
from a variety of speakers on a certain subject because of this. We should understand that this
diversity of viewpoints allows us, as listeners or consumers of communication, to become more
completely educated about a subject. The Philippines is a democratic nation that adheres to the
notion that everyone should be treated fairly and have the opportunity to express themselves.
For instance, a newscaster is free to report on events and provide information to the public via
television. Another example is that people and the general public have a right to express their
ideas and make suggestions to the government. For instance, people can share their thoughts
and goals on social media or in their particular barangays, but they should do it in an
appropriate and respectful manner.
