PLATE NO. 1 STATICS

1. Compute the X and Y components of each of the forces shown in fig A.

2. The triangular block shown in fig B is subjected to loads P = 9kN and F =

4kN. If AB = 2.0m and BC = 1.5m, resolve each load into components
normal and tangential.

3. The body on the 30° incline in fig C is acted upon by a force P inclined at
20° with the horizontal. If P is resolved into components parallel and
perpendicular to the incline and the value of the parallel component is
3kN, compute the value of the perpendicular component and that of P.

4. The X component of the force P is 8kN to the left in fig D. Determine P

and its Y-component.

5. Determine completely the resultant of the concurrent

force system shown in fig E.

6. The resultant of the concurrent forces shown is 16kN

pointing up along the Y axis. Compute the value of F
and Ꝋ required to give this resultant. See fig F

7. Two horses on opposite banks of a canal pull a barge

moving parallel to the banks by means of two
horizontal ropes. The tension on these ropes are 12kN
and 14kN while the angle between them is 60°. Find
the resultant pull on the barge and the angle
between each of the ropes and the sides of the
canal.

8. Determine completely the resultant of the concurrent

force system shown in fig G.

9. Determine completely the resultant of the concurrent

force system shown in fig H. Use angle with respect to Y-
axis.

10. Determine completely the resultant of the

concurrent force system shown in fig H. Use angle with
respect to X-axis.
