Sociology Film Analysis: The films Miss Representation and The Mask You Live

The films "Miss Representation" and "The Mask that we live in" discuss the impact of

the internet, media, gender, and traditional behaviors on our everyday lives. Social scientists

gather information from systems through group discussions, observations, surveys, and

experiments. They gather information from films, papers, and national archives to learn about

social systems in society. Films made with people have mainly historical and social contexts,

which inform people a lot about ancient issues of deprivation, procedures about how child

bearing was performed, common ways of deviance characters in society, and whole aspects of

life are studied.

Films are widely available in society, are inexpensive, and are often amusing

depending on the circumstances. Sociological aspects typically mainstream knowledge for

researchers from a variety of perspectives. The most famous and significant one in culture is

movies, especially American films in the United States, which are available everywhere

( Bartlett,133). Movies have been used to entertain students while teaching them about aspects

of their everyday lives and the components mechanisms of survival in life. A new sociological

insight is gained. Miss Representation is a film about how women are portrayed in the media,

while The You Live is about societal expectations on boys that make them manly and impose

the masculinity definition of society as being gentlemen.

The Mask You Live In, it illustrates the struggle of men as gender to stand the stigma

of masculinity .This film is interested on the growing of boy child believing that masculinity

is putting emotions together. This concept hurts our culture at large and not only the younger

ones in the society .Boys are believed to be toughening up doesn't mean being vulnerable

( Bartelt, 138). This preposition motivates children to speak out their emotions, which are

inevitable painfully time consuming. One the evident truth is in schools almost fours are

bullied. In other words, the number of boys who are abused is lower than the percentage of

girls who are abused in various settings. Many abused people refuse to have intimate

relationships or associations that cause them to feel dishonest. The subject of single

documentation is masculine identification, characteristics, and attitudes. The focus of the

entire documentation is on this mainstream subject, with subtitles concerned with what it

means to be a man ( Belet, 224The societal stigma placed on adolescents by the media, peers,

and parents has often resulted in prominent and outrageous masks. The result among

teenagers assumes that amen has no space for empathy toward other people's aspects of life.

The film depicts the damage caused by the belief that both men and women have masculinity

in society.

The film "The Mask You Live In" will examine how sex stigmas relate to races,

genders, and life circumstances, as well as the impact of mass media on youth, famous

culture, and the school system. Sex explains how recognizing and interpreting cultures

provides a reflection of the social importance of men and women's roles and identities, which

include being people, infants, women, queers of sex, homosexuals, and holding other sex

positions in life. Gender was historically constructed by beliefs, standards, and practices that

were perceived as belonging to one sex in society, such as fetching water for women and

grazing animals for boys. This term has little bearing on masculinity, which can be explored

in a variety of ways that have been instilled in a rigid and hierarchical manner.

Gender interaction and socialization are prevalent in the media as a consequence of

physical attractiveness, which allows our culture to understand people besing on their sexual

appearance . Watching media provides us with news, entertainment, and advertisements for

various opportunities. We also see portraits of women and men in various circumstances. In

most cases, the images we continue to see paint a straightforward picture of men as brave and

transparent, while women's worth is determined by their outward outlook or appearance .

According to statistics, men die at a rate four times that of women due to suicide and other

cause Women prefer poisoning themselves when killing themselves over men who use

weapons, fatal methods of suicide, and exhaust gas. These are the results of men's lofty

aspirations on risk and fatal suicide. Human rule is the one in which aging feelings are wrath.

People have conducted studies on social perceptions of male figures' actions and

masculinity as a result of authority, especially from gender rules of sporting activities, in the

sense of social identity and self-image. During the error of industrial growth in the United

States, the objective of sports was to mentally train men and boys for war, and there was a

reciprocal advantage for men in that they could be feminized without complex work. It

transformed sport into a cultural diversity forum, motivating many people to embrace and
SURNAME 4

discourage men's masculinity. Interaction in sports activities increased socially man ideals

that include competition and hostility..

“The Mask You Live In” explores the concept of adolescent and adult vulnerability.

The film focuses on a scene in which inmates assemble in a circle to voice their grievances

about masculinity and how it has caused them to spend the majority of their lives in prison.

The people who told me about his abuse as a child were the ones who had the most impact on

me. He said that he sought his mother's confidence, but he never felt it, despite the fact that he

was very guilty in deed. Depression overtook him as a result of his actions, and he felt that his

life was a living hell.He was aware that the circumstances that led him to kill an individual

were to prevent him or her from valuing his or her life while also preventing him or her from

considering the future of another. When people talk about crime, it bothers me. If this man

spoke about his life when he was a youth, he would not be imprisoned for it. He complained

about abuse as a child and the dismissal of another testimony man in the prison culture. He

was welcomed into the drug world, and at the age of twelve, he started abusing drugs to

alleviate stress as a result of social pressure.

The detail in both films has led to societal misperception.  Both have

common message  that they describe a crisis in our culture. The film falls short.

Representation reveals the impact of advertising on our motivations and goals in life. Media

has achieved something in our culture that no one else has: she has created perfect women's

pictures. Our young women are influenced by news coverage of ideal women's images of

perfection (ceulamans & Fauconnier 2015). When a girl tries to achieve the expected target in

order to gain recognition from a male perspective, social pressure increases. The media draws
SURNAME 5

attention to culture by modeling something that is outside the realms of possibility and

society's standards; the more people who follow this model, the worse the society becomes.

Most media depict pornographic images, primarily of women's bodies, in order to

capture the public's attention. This exposes women to be seen as an object rather than a

human being. Our society's objectification of women fosters the belief that their worth is

based on their appearance rather than their intellect (Gottschalk and Smith, 2015). Women's

images are thought to be weaker than men's. Despite the fact that women have demonstrated

true capabilities in our society, most people do not believe that women can do what men can,

especially in politics. Women are used as a form of entertainment by the media. This

diminishes the divinity of women in our society. This leader's inspiration has strengthened the

incriminatory tradition of men and women in society. Women's roles in politics have been

neglected. For example, in a scenario where one boy and one girl are competing for

leadership, the boy child is more likely to be selected. A girl child, on the other hand, has a

better chance of being chosen for modeling and advertising. This is evident from our political

system's construction; men make up a large percentage of our system and most people believe

women are incapable of becoming good leaders. The media's portrayal of women creates risks

to society's perceptions of empowering women and girls ( Ceulemans & Fauconnier,2015).

RIn this the film The  Mask You Live In and Miss representation film, women never

played an important role; instead, they only pursue men who are desperate for attention and

affection. Women will go to great lengths to attract the attention of a man. The media

sexualizes the portrayal of women. The subject of the media's portrayal of the ideal woman's

dream has an effect on both young and old women in society. In today's film industry, for
SURNAME 6

example, women are perceived to be having more wrinkles and losing weight in order to

appear younger and more attractive to men.

The media has been so engrossed in constructing these images of perfection for our

society to accept. Every day in society, women sacrifice in order to prove their perfection.

What is given attention in women is the norm of standard. Being beautiful is desirable, but

culture has created a narrative that undermines women's integrity and worth solely for the

sake of beauty. In the workplace, for example, women can aspire to look good while

remaining competent. The issue occurs when men overlook such women's seriousness and

competence because they are distracted by their appearance. Gottschalk and Smith (1964) .

Throughout the media, men are seen speaking negatively about women and distorting women

with the influence they have.

In today's world, men have taken control of the media. Many men all over the world

have internalized this negative media view. Men always have sexual intentions when they

associate with women. The scene in which people discussed Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton.

It demonstrated that Sarah was specialized in how Clinton had looked and how she was in

movies. In our culture, the media diminishes the value of women.

Few women have defied these assumptions in recent years. This demonstrates that

women can be just as strong as men. For a better future, society must break down the media

barrier against women in order to achieve gender equality. Our culture requires change, and

our media should be a primary agent of change because it has such a large impact in our

society. Miss Representation was produced to remind us of how the media affects our society
SURNAME 7

and how we perceive that effect. The process of transformation, as well as the women's

struggle to change this stereotyping, should be noted.

In general, I agree that Miss Representation and The Mask You Life In are vital films

advocating for change if we want a future life in which gender does not matter. The Mask You

Life In makes me realize that society has divided us into groups based on gender, and we are

expected to do what is assigned to us by stereotypes created within our society, which shape

our personalities and compel us to behave accordingly. The film helped me realize that gender

is simply the way our bodies are built. According to Miss Representation, women face

ridicule from people who believe that in order for them to be useful, they must be attractive,

wear lipstick, and do other things that they believe would make them better.
