ABSTRACT

The study was quantitative research specifically experimental and used a

complete randomized design. It aimed to determine the effect of using fine rice

straw as an admixture to produce concrete pavement block. It also aimed to

determine its physical property and mechanical property compared to a plain

concrete pavement block as our control. T-Test independent was used to

compare the compressive and mass density of this study to the previous

study. It was carried out using Complete Randomized Design (CRD) that was

analyzed using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). A post hoc test

using Fisher’s Least Square Difference (LSD) was performed to determine

further analysis of the specific difference between each treatment and control.

It was conducted by drying and grinding the rice straw thoroughly and mixing it

with cement, then proper procedures were followed. The result of the study

showed that adding finer and drier rice straw can make the sample lighter and

absorbent to water. However, it was found that the higher the amount of rice

straw added, the compressive strength of the paving block also decreases.

Also, the length and size of rice straw affects the mass density of the

pavement block.
