CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

1. ANSWER: A

RATIO: Flat lines normally occur due to the disconnection of specific ECG leads. When
performing an ECG test, a 'Leads OFF' indicator located at the bottom right-hand corner
of the test screen will inform the end-user where the problem may be.
2. ANSWER: A
RATIO: The P wave results from depolarization of the atrial myocardium, and the
beginning of the P wave precedes the onset of atrial contraction.
3. ANSWER: C
RATIO: During the PQ interval, the atria contract and begin to relax. At the end of the PQ
interval, the ventricles begin to depolarize. The QT interval extends from the beginning of
the QRS complex to the end of the T wave and represents the length of time required for
ventricular depolarization and repolarization.
4. ANSWER: B
RATIO: The QRS complex results from depolarization of the ventricles, and the
beginning of the QRS complex precedes ventricular contraction.
5. ANSWER: D
RATIO: The T wave represents repolarization of the ventricles, and the beginning of the T
wave precedes ventricular relaxation. A wave representing repolarization of the atria
cannot be seen because it occurs during the QRS complex.

AL Activity: FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT (AFTER A LESSON)

1. NONE
2. I don’t have any confusion in number 1 because soon as I saw the picture, I saw a
flat line ECG result and read my book and so I understand number 1.
