SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES

BETWEEN SPORTS, RECREATION


AND LEISURE.
Sports, recreation and leisure play an important role in communities just like culture and
art. There are many benefits include improving the health and well-being of individuals,
promoting the development of inclusive communities and contributing to the
empowerment of individuals. Sports, recreation and leisure activities may involve
individuals, small groups, teams or whole communities. This are relevant to people of all
different abilities, ages and level of skill. However, to understand the dynamics of sports,
recreation and leisure, there is need to define variables.

Sport refers to any type of organized physical activity such as movement of people,
animals or a variety of objects such as balls and machines. Unlike recreation and leisure, this
is because sports need to have competitive and show off their own skills. Sports are also fun
oriented, socially motivated and guided by rules and regulations. Furthermore, sports
divided by two categories which is indoor and outdoor. The example of indoor activities are
bowling, badminton, swimming and etc. Then, outdoor activities can be such as football,
rugby, hockey and etc. Recreation refers to all those activities that people choose to do to
refresh their bodies and minds. It involves non-competitive activities such as swimming,
jogging, hiking, playing games as well as dancing. There were four types of recreational
activities which is physical, social, cultural and intellectual. Definitely, it gives direct
satisfaction to them. Nevertheless, leisure time is any free time that can be used to pursue
personal interests without any forces or influence from others. It has three essentials
elements which is perceived freedom, autotelic activity and beneficial outcome. Leisure
activities include socializing, meditating, painting and others.

Sports, recreation and leisure are similar in the sense that they involve refreshing
interactive activities necessary to maintain a balanced lifestyle from the busy routines of
life. Certainly they will involve after their work and responsibilities are done. In addition,
their time will be well spent and not wasted doing nothing. What is more, they can spend
their time through the activities with family or friends instead of do it alone. Here definitely
can be an opportunity for them to have quality time. As well as can release fatigue and
stress through sports, recreation and leisure. It is not like letting it go in anger or a bad
mood, but it is just a way to forget their problems and get some fresh air, so that it will give
them satisfaction and probably they can think wisely on how to solve their problem or
anything. Identically can avoid boredom. Indeed, these three have their own indoor and
outdoor activities. For example, solve puzzles, yoga, jogging and others.
Not only similarities, but also got the differences between sports, recreation and leisure.
In terms of competition, only sports need to have competitors compared to the others
which is recreation and leisure are non-competitive. Furthermore, recreation and leisure
does not have to follow any rules and regulations like sports by cause of they choose to do
the activities freely. Instead, each sport has its own rules and regulations to ensure fair play
between competitors. Obviously, sports’ competitors have their own target as well as
training to become winner. All the things need to organize well such as day and date nor
venue to be held. Compared to recreation and leisure, the activities can be done anywhere
and anytime whenever they want or got free time. Last but not least, it may not have any
kind of win or lose, but definitely they will be satisfied.

To sum up, sports, recreation and leisure are some of instructional areas need to be
addressed. Knowledge of sports, recreation and leisure provides critical support to a wide
range of society capacities in the areas of social interaction, independent living and self-
determination. By developing sports, recreation and leisure skills can have positive impacts
on the lives of people.
