GENERAL & AIRFRAME

GENERAL:
The BELL 206 series is a single engine utility type helicopter.
The standard configuration provides for one pilot and 6 passengers in the Long Ranger
and one pilot and 4 passengers in the Jet Ranger (B-3).
A baggage compartment is located aft of the passenger compartment below the
engine deck.
The fuel, passengers, and/ or cargo are located under the main rotor to minimize
center of gravity travel.
The main rotor is two- bladed, semi-rigid, teetering type, employing preconing and
underslinging to ensure smooth operation.
The main rotor blades are of all metal construction and are individually
interchangeable.
The tail rotor is a two- bladed, semi-rigid, flapping type.
All 206 series helicopters are powered by shaft turbine engines manufactured by
Allison. (Rolls Royce 250- C20 J for B- 3 , and Allison 250- C30P )

FUSELAGE

Fuselage consists of 3 sections:

The forward section, the intermediate section and tail boom section.
The forward section :
It utilizing 2 beams with transverse bulkheads. The beams make up the main
structure support for the cabin section, which includes pilot and passengers
compartments, the fuel cells, and the transmission support.
contains: windshields, chain bubble, cockpit, cabin, cabin roof windows, fuel
cells, 5 doors, battery& ext. power maintenance doors

8
9
The intermediate section:
Contains engine, baggage compartment, electrical & heater equipment and
fairings & cowling.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT:

Titanium and aluminum alloy panels located above the electric compartment,
provide a deck for the engine, the engine oil tank and the oil cooler/ blower
assembly,

The tailboom section :

11
Supports tail rotor drive train, horizontal stabilizer, vertical fin and fairings.
Four bolts attach the tail boom to the intermediate section.

12
*stabilizer: is an asymmetrical, inverted airfoil to downward (negative) lift
to maintain level attitude at cruise speed and to streamline fuselage to reduce
drag.
In the 206 L-Ш THE STABILIZER:
Incorporates in front slats to improve pitch stability during climb.
Incorporates also a controllable synchronized elevator to modify the down force
transmitted to the tail boom.
On each end of the horizontal stabilizer there are an end plates or dynamic
dihedrals, and its leading edges are offset 5˚ to the left to improve roll
(dihedral) stability in forward flight.

VERTICAL FIN: Provides directional stability. Canted 5.5˚C outboard to

reduce T/R thrust requirements during forward flight.

CABIN HARD POINTS: 3 POINTS: on the belly 2 in front

forward to cockpit doors, 1 at the aft low intermediate section.
They are for jacking & mooring helicopter.

13
COWLINGS AND FAIRINGS:
Cowlings and fairings contains five sections constructed of aluminum alloy,
fiberglass, and honeycomb materials.
Cowling and fairing sections are readily removable for engine and
transmission changes or repairs.
Access doors are provided with flush-type latches which permit inspections
and servicing without removing cowlings and fairings.

14
FORWARD FAIRING:
The forward fairing is located on the cabin roof forward of the transmission.
A single point hinge fitting assembly is located at the forward end of fairing.
A rod is stowed inside the fairing on the left side for supporting the fairing in a
raised position. Two toggle hook latch fittings secure the forward fairing in
the closed position.
TRANSMISSION FAIRING:
The transmission fairing is located on the cabin roof and encloses the forward
half of the transmission and controls.
AIR INDUCTION COWLING:
The air induction cowling is located on the cabin roof and encloses the aft half
of the main transmission. Inlet ducts are provided on each side of the air
induction cowling to direct flow of inlet air to the induction screen. Two
doors are provided for maintenance and inspection of the induction screen
and transmission.

15
ENGINE COWLING:
The engine cowling includes the engine upper cowling and engine side
cowling.
The engine upper cowling is constructed of aluminum alloy and contains two
screen vents forward of the cutout for the exhaust stack.
Hinged to the engine upper cowling are two engine side cowling. The engine
side panels are constructed of aluminum alloy and incorporate five screen
vents, and three flush latches.
The right engine side cowling includes a screen vent for the starter generator
cooling duct.
Engine side cowling is hinged and may be supported in an open position by a
rod.

16
AFT FAIRING.
The aft fairing is constructed of aluminum alloy and incorporates two screen
vents, oil cooler and oil tank access doors, and a cutout for the oil cooler
blower exhaust.

17
LANDING GEAR:
The landing gear is a skid type consisting of 2 main longitudinal skids
connected by 2 lateral curved cross tubes.
It is attached to the airframe by 4 saddle / strap assemblies
There are 6 shoes at the bottom of each skid.

18
EMERGENCY FLOATS:
Float bottle indicated pressure must fall inside the green area of the
outside air temperature VS pressure chart. The chart table is on the
side of the float bottle and on the same side as the pressure gauge.
