A very good morning/ good afternoon to Ms. Ng and my fellow classmates.

In today’s
presentation, my group will be talking about how we could adapt to online learning through a
change in mindset.

To start off, I would like to tell you a story of Collin O’ Brady. For those of you who don’t
know who Collin O’ Brady is, he is an American professional endurance athlete, motivational speaker
and adventurer. He is a former professional triathlete, representing the United States on the ITU
Triathlon World Cup circuit, racing in 25 countries on six continents from 2009 to 2015. But do you
all know that in January 2008, on the island of Koh Tao, he suffered a devastating burn injury.
Though he was warned he might never walk normally, he took his first step the following month and
was determined to make a full recovery.

And what he really inspired me the most is what he said during a TED talk presentation. He
said, “Through this tragedy, I had learned an invaluable lesson. I had learned that life will test us with
setbacks but these situations aren’t permanent. We have full control of our choices to keep moving
forward, one step at a time. I had learned that we all have reservoirs of untapped potential and
achieve great things. The biggest thing standing in our way? That will be our own minds.”

Same goes to challenges that we face as students during online class. The key to overcome it
will be changing your mindset. I believe staying focused and motivated are the two main challenges
that we student are experiencing ever since we had to switch from face-to-face learning to the
virtual and remote method due to the strike of Covid-19 pandemic.

While some have adapted well to this new norm, many are still grappling with technical
issues as well as solitude and isolation while trying their best to keep on track with their studies.

The feeling of loneliness or isolation also set in as we students tackle new topic and
assignments without the support we are accustomed to, particularly the physical and immediate
communications with lecturers and peers. And how do we adapt to this? With the change in
mindset. As pointed out by Steve Maraboli, “Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside
will change along with it.”
