The way you help employees improve their performance depends on the available resources. For
instance, if you have a high budget, you can arrange trainers to personally analyse and train them to
achieve better results. If not, you can enroll them to attend conferences, webinars, online courses, etc.

Employee performance improvement highly depends on the resources available. As an example, with
a hefty budget, the Human Resources management can procure trainings and analysis to enhance
employee output. Incase of budget constraints the HR can have them take up online courses,
webinars, and conferences, etc.

Topic for Essay: The role of the midwife in supporting women with FGM (female genital mutilation) in
the UK

Introduction:

The World Health Organization (WHO) (2014), defines female genital mutilation as the complete or
partial removal or injury to a female’s external genitalia. It also marks the practice as a clear violation
of Human Rights.

FGM is generally carried out on females between infancy and the age of 15 (i.e. before the start of
their puberty). This can however have long term adverse effects on their health. (Unicef, 2013)

This paper will go on to discuss the role of midwifes in UK in assisting patients who have undergone
illegal or secretive practice of female genital mutilation particularly in UK. This paper also aims to
increase awareness among general population about the practice being carried out and how such
patients should be handled a bit differently.

Discussion:

It is the role of midwives to ask women who come for pregnancy related matters if they are genitally
mutilated or not, and then deal their cases for safe birth as well as postnatal care for both the baby
and the mother. It is still debated whether the girl child’s health is also at risk in this case, however,
the child’s health is paramount and hence, it naturally requires a sensitive approach. It is essential for
the midwives to document any concerns and conversations; and if there are any concerns then, it is
important to ensure better care. (Royal College of Nursing, 2016)

In addition to this, it is also the role of midwives to spread awareness where necessary. Even though
this may come under confidentiality laws, however, both policy and law allow so if it is a matter of
public interest or where they deem law is about to be broken or a child might be at risk. (Royal
College of Nursing, 2016)

Above all, the regulatory bodies are responsible to provide proper education and training to midwives
who may work with such cases. FGM should hence be a part of all midwifery and nursing courses
(Royal College of Nursing, 2016)

In turn it is important for the registrants to ensure they can properly provide practice in line with the
NMC code (NMC, 2010)

It is also their responsibility to partake in any necessary course or training program in order to obtain
proper training and education for effective detection of female genital mutilation and subsequently
procedures surrounding these patients. Such courses can conveniently be found around the internet
for example a free learning program available for NHS trusts on the website:
www.e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/female-genital-mutilation. (ELFH, 2021)

Conclusion:

To conclude, there is sufficient data and reference to claim that FGM is a risky process and comes with
severe possibilities in the future. Females who have undergone the procedure may be at risk and need
to be handled with care during child birth. In addition, FGM also poses a risk to the child being born
and hence needs to be treated safely as well. Thorough education and training on the difference in
procedures for female’s undergone FGM need to be provided to all related healthcare staff for the
safety of the residents of UK.

Topic for Dissertation Practice: The role of the midwife in supporting women with FGM (female
genital mutilation) in the UK

Chapter 1:

Research Aim:

The scope of this study is to explore the role of midwives in UK in supporting the women who have
undergone female genital mutilation.

Research Objectives:

RO1: Exploring the prevalence of patients with female genital mutilation in UK.

RO2: Exploring the role of midwives in FGM related practices and procedures

RO3: Exploring the prevalence and communication of necessary education, literature, and training to
midwives regarding FGM.

Hypothesis:

1: Most women who have undergone FGM do not realize the severity of the situation during sexual
intercourse or childbirth.

2: Women with FGM need to be treated with special and extra care when it comes to gynecology
related procedures.

Research Questions:

RQ1: Out of the women found with genital mutilation, how many of them had their procedure
conducted from outside UK.

RQ2: How well versed are the midwives in UK with the phenomenon of female genital mutilation and
the precautionary measures needed to be taken in the case of childbirth.

Conceptual Model:

Women with Female

Role of Midwives in UK
Genital Mutilation

Problem Statement:

The overall scope of the role of midwives, in dealing with patients who have had female genital
mutilation has till date not been explored to the full capacity.
Limitations of the study:

The study is limited to secondary research only and will thereby however, explore all literary areas
such as previous researches and statistics provided by the government and other governing bodies
related to the topic.

Female Genital Mutilation:

According to Creighton, et. al., (2019), the phrase Female Genital Mutilation refers to a wide range of
procedures and applications however, not separating it from the other procedures including non-
consensual mutilation of genitals. Therefore FGM can result in a various types of complications in
different patients.

Prevalence:

In addition to the above, the research done by Dixon, et. al., (2018) explores that in 2014, the UK
government dedicated itself to working on eliminating FGM. For this purpose, educational and
safeguarding processes were introduced and necessary changes in the legislation were made which
compelled any healthcare professionals who came across any case with FGM (under-18) to be
reported immediately. The study also claims that over 200 million females world-wide had undergone
FGM.

Use the following paragraph as if your study was based on interviews, so include interview findings.

Morgan  (2012)  claimed  that  a  successful  brand  is innovative,  focused,  passionate,  consistent,
flexible, competitive, leadership and distinction. He added that great brands  always  focus  on
innovation  which  prevents becoming complacent and  stagnant. They never break off pushing.  For
instance,  Samsung,  Apple,  Coca-Cola, McDonald etc got  high success  in the  market.

Use the following paragraph as if your study was based on survey, so include survey findings.

As  claimed by  Hsieh  et al.  (2004),  a  successful  brand image enables customers to identify the needs
that the brand satisfies and to differentiate the brand from its competitors and consequently increases
the  likelihood that  customers will purchase the brand.  A business organisation of  its  services  or
products  which  continuously  holds  a favourable image by the customers, would absolutely obtain a
competitive position in the marketplace, increase market share,  gain  competitive  advantages,  as  well
as  enhance organisational  performance.
