Opening a business in New York City can seem daunting at the start. Many entrepreneurial New
Yorkers ask: where do I begin? The goal of this course is to help you understand what starting an

New businesses often fail not because of a bad business idea, but because they did not have a system
that standardized, measured, and improved its operations. The goal of this course is to help you
translate your business concept into an efficient operation that continuously improves and raises your
bottom line.

Here Intended for entrepreneurs unfamiliar with business financial management, Business Finance 1
introduces key terms and concepts in everyday language. During this course, you will develop an
understanding of basic business financial terms such as profit, cash flow, and gross margin.

Register Here Every entrepreneur is in business to make profits, but only some do. A critical step
to success is creating the financial plan that will guide your business to profitability. The goal of this

Selling to Government 101, July 11th – Register Here This webinar will provide businesses
with an overview of how to get registered to do business with the government, how to get certified
at all levels of government, and how to find opportunities. It will provide guidance on all of the steps
necessary to become a responsible and responsive vendor to Federal, New York State, and New
York City governments.

Health Insurance Tips for Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs, Aug 16th – Register Here
Learn the basics of health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act and what it means for
your company and employees. The topics covered in this workshop include the Small Business Health
Care Tax Credit, the NY State of Health Marketplace, and available health insurance options for your
business- whether or not you have employees.

QuickBooks Online, July 27th – Register Here, and Sept 13th – Register Here This six hour,
hands-on course will teach you how to use QuickBooks Online and provide an overview of basic
accounting terms and processes, how to read and use financial statements, the importance of
bookkeeping to running your business, and important methods and principles of bookkeeping.

Intellectual Property 101, Sept 16th – Register Here Intellectual property refers to the legal
rights of intangibles such as ideas, symbols, and creative works. Intellectual property is an asset of any
business, much like equipment or a product. If properly protected, it can constitute an integral part of
