Persuasive Essay prompt: Ecuadorian undergraduate students must pay for their education.
Do you agree or disagree? Take a stand and provide evidence to support it.
PERSUASIVE ESSAY OUTLINE TEMPLATE
INTRODUCTION
If you think education is expensive, try ignorance. One of the most expensive and essential
levels in any person's education is the undergraduate degree. Nowadays, pursuing an
undergraduate degree is a privilege and, above all, in a country like Ecuador where more
students aspire to higher education so they can achieve job opportunities. Despite this, most
of the population does not have the resources to pay for college. Thus, Ecuadorian
undergraduate students should not pay for education because they lack resources, receive
help from the government's budget and need time to develop their potential.
Use the checklist below to make sure you comply with all the items (self-evaluation)

BODY
Paragraph 1
Supporting idea 1: Many high school graduates do not have the money to pay for tuition at
a private institution.
Supporting idea 2: The material for the practices is usually much more expensive since
each student is expected to have the necessary resources to obtain them.
Details:
Private institutes sell at high prices the items that they normally use for classes and
practices, without them you cannot participate or meet the schedule such as book,
gowns, etc.
Some students put courses on hold asking for study afford.
Supporting idea 3: The student incomes from jobs are not enough to cover all the
expenses of a degree.
Details:
A student who works and earns a basic salary, around $425, cannot cover tuition or
additional expenses.
The poor quality of jobs for young people is a constant that has generated precarious
conditions, based on ONU reports.
Paragraph 2
Topic sentence: The students receive help from government’s budget for several reasons.
Supporting idea 1: The students have the right to a public education supported by the
State.
Details:
• There are estates that protect the gratuity for universities and polytechnic schools by
the Government.
• Laws, such as the LOEI, have been created to support students and the public
education.
Supporting idea 2: Student’s education is one of the priority areas for the country’s
investment.
Details:
• The government grants resources to the education of the students because it
improves the development indexes of the country.
• The government’s budget for services, such as education, mainly comes from the
citizens.
Supporting idea 3: The students with a good academic average can only access to
scholarship programs.
More than half of the students aspire to enter to public universities through programs
like the Senescyt, which has been created by the government.
Thanks to the government’s help, currently, 170 000 people have been able to study;
this represents 54% of the graduates.
Paragraph 3
Topic sentence: Students that don’t have to pay for their education have enough time to
develop their potential for different factors.
Details:
• If a student works, he or she will not have enough time to realize their academic
activities.
• If students don’t present their activities on time, their grades will decrease.
Supporting idea 2: Students who don’t pay their monthly or semester fees on time will not
be allowed to attend classes.
Details:
• Missing two classes could be fatal for those students who don’t pay on time because
they may fail that subject.
• The university/academy will always record the number of times you repeated a
subject, and therefore it will be very affected.
Supporting idea 3: Students that get a job to pay their tuition would be less motivated that
those who don’t.
Details:
• Students who have several non-academic activities and are not organized in their
routine could present poor performance in all of them.
• Students who notice that their efficiency is not as high as before will become
increasingly demotivated and may not finish their studies.
Use the checklist below to make sure you comply with all the items

CONCLUSION
Write the complete conclusion that includes the thesis paraphrase and
call for action
As the students have low personal resources, receive financial aid decreed by the
government and need time to focus on their careers, they should not pay for their education.
Free education is a right and it is entirely appropriate to require it. We can demand this right
by protesting in favor of free educational aspects and holding talks or vocational counseling
where would specify to all undergraduate students that a good academic education is never
defined by the money. It is very necessary to eliminate the factor of this concern that is in
every Ecuadorian student and not let money stop them from obtaining a professional degree
anymore.
CONCLUSION YES NO
Did you paraphrase the thesis
(claim+3 arguments)?
Does the call for action invite
the reader to take the writer’s
position?
Does the call for action “move”
the reader?
