Sudirman was born in Bodas Karangjati village, Rembang, Purbalingga, Central Java, 24
January 1916. He studied at the Dutch Native School in Purwokerto, and then at a Muhammadiyah
teacher training college in Surakarta. He worked as a teacher at the Muhammadiyah school in
Cilacap.
During the Japanese occupation of Indonesia during World War II, Sudirman trained to
become a battalion commander in Peta, the "homeland defense" army promoted by the Japanese.
When Japan surrendered and Sukarno proclaimed Indonesian independence, he organized
his Peta battalion into a Banyumas-based regiment of the Republican army to resist Dutch
reoccupation of its former colony. The first major battle that he led was the Battle of Ambarawa
against the British and the Dutch (November-December 1945).
On 12 December he led a "coordinated attack" against British positions in Ambarawa, driving
the British all the way to Semarang. The battle ended on 16 December.
On 12 November 1945 he was elected Commander-in-chief of the Army, a position he held
until his death. During much of the next five years he was sick with tuberculosis, but led several
guerrilla actions against the Dutch. He led the resistance to the Dutch attack on Yogyakarta, then the
Republic of Indonesia's headquarters, in December 1948. Theodore Friend (2003) describes him as
having "...a strangely blended samurai discipline, Marxist disposition, and raw courage."
Sudirman died in Magelang, 29 January 1950 at the age of 35. He was buried in Heroes'
Cemetery in Semaki, Yogyakarta. He received the title of National Hero of Indonesia as an
Independence Defender Hero. Sudirman was the first and the youngest General in Indonesia

Batu Punggol or Stump Stone is a stone which stands firmly and has the shape of tree trunk.
This stone is situated about 24 miles from the Sapulot airstrip. It is about 400 feet high and has a
circumference of about one mile.
The Muruts say that once there were six brothers who had only one sister. She was the most
beautiful girl in the village at that time, and they loved her very much. During that time, before Batu
Punggol appeared in that area, there was one stone which had a similar shape as Batu Punggol,
situated at the upper Sapulot river. On the top of this stone there was an animal called tudoh or
porcupine which produced a strong odor that could kill hundreds and hundreds of people who stayed
near the stone. These six brothers and their sister hated this animal so much that they planned to kill
it.
One morning, without thinking about their plan, they decided to cut the stone, but their attempt
failed. During the night their sister dreamed that they could cut the stone only by using tulang dayong
(shoulder blade), that was present in landak tunggal (porcupine) which lived in that area. The next
morning, she told her dream to her brothers. After they had heard their sister's story they went
immediately to the forest to make a trap for catching the animal. At first they used a big log to trap the
animal but they failed. At last they found a new method to catch the animal by using a banana tree.
This time they managed to catch the animal and slaughter it. They ate the meat and then fixed the
bones together and made them into an axe for cutting the stone.
Before they cut down the stone they put their sister on one of the stones which were not far
away from them. The stone which six brothers cut down fell into the Sapulot river but the stone on
which they had put their sister rose taller and taller. When they turned back to see their sister they
were very surprised to see her on the top of the stone crying for help. With angry blows they cut the
stone down. The peak of the stone broke and was believed to have been thrown all the way to
Tenom Lama, and it is now called Batu Pinuto. This stone can be found between Tenom and Pangi,
and the train passes through a tunnel in the stone.
But the six brothers could not find where their beloved sister had been thrown to. So at last
they separated in order to look for the lost sister.

A watermelon is a fresh and delicious fruit. Eating watermelon is good for us.
First, watermelon contains high water (92%) but has no cholesterol content, so it is good for those
who are on a diet. Watermelons not only quench your thirst but can also make you slim and beautiful.
Second, watermelons contain Vitamins A and C (like most fruit). They also contain Vitamin B6
which is thought to be good for energy, B5, B2 and smaller amounts of B1. Vitamin C boosts your
immune system and fights against sickness and diseases. In addition, it can improve medical
conditions like cataract. So you can avoid illnesses and disease by consuming this fruit.
Next, watermelons are rich in Lycopene, a source of the potent carotenoid antioxidant. Lycopene
is the red pigment also found in tomatoes. This nutrient neutralizes free radicals in the system and
reduces incidence of certain types of cancers especially prostate cancer, breast, lung and cancer of
the uterus.
Finally, watermelons are also great for sunburns or skin blemishing. Some women use them by
applying the red flesh on the face. One way is, apply a small piece liberally on your face, leave for ten
minutes, then wash off with warm water, followed by a splash of cold water. This replenishes and
lightens face complexion.
Based on the facts above, it is true that eating watermelons is good and healthy for us. Adopted

state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) has confirmed.
The temporary disruption occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, reportedly causing long
lines of passengers who wanted to check in for their flights.
The system was fully restored to normal for both domestic and international flights at 4:50
a.m., said the airport’s senior manager of the communications and legal branch, Febri Toga
Simatupang.
“The check-in system was down only for three international flights. A team from AP II and the

parties,” Febri said in a statement on Friday.
Febri noted that the airport was equipped with an information technology system that enabled
it to recover from such disruptions.
“We apologize for the technical problem,” he said, adding that all check-in systems at
Terminal 3 as well as terminals 1 and 2 had been operating as normal. (bry)

The Battle of Ambarawa was a battle between the recently created Indonesian Army and the
British Army that occurred between 20 October and 15 December 1945 in Ambarawa, Indonesia.
On 20 October 1945, Allied troops under the command of Brigadier Bethell landed in
Semarang to disarm Japanese troops. Initially, the troops were welcomed in the area, with Central
Java’s governor Wongsonegoro agreeing to provide them with food and other necessities in return for
the Allies’ promise to respect Indonesia’s sovereignty and independence.
However, when Allied and NICA troops began freeing and arming freed Dutch POWs in
Ambarawa and Magelang, many locals were angered. Indonesian troops under the command of
Lieutenant Colonel M. Sarbini began besieging Allied troops stationed in Magelang in reprisal for their
attempted disarmament.
On the morning of 23 November 1945, Indonesian troops began firing on Allied troops
stationed in Ambarawa. A counterattack by the Allies forced the Indonesian Army to retreat to the
village of Bedono.
On 11 December 1945, Soedirman held a meeting with various commanders of the
Indonesian Army. The next day at 4:30 AM, the Indonesian Army launched an assault on the Allies in
Ambarawa. Indonesian artillery pounded Allied positions, which were later overrun by infantry. When
the Semarang-Ambarawa highway was captured by Indonesian troops, Soedirman immediately
ordered his forces to cut off the supply routes of the remaining Allied troops by using a pincer
maneuver.
The battle ended four days later on 15 December 1945, when Indonesia succeeded in
regaining control over Ambarawa and the Allies retreated to Semarang.

I personally think that a person with a mental illness that we usually find wandering around
our neighborhood aimlessly is not dangerous, but a serious act needs to be done on this matter. The
following reasons will show you why we need to do something to insane people.
Firstly, people with mental illness who walk around our neighborhood or workplace may look
scary because most of the time they are found in dirty condition and in zombie-like state (having no
consciousness), but they rarely endanger the people around them, except they were disturbed first.
Placing them in a secure place will minimize the chance of them being disturbed by irresponsible
people compare to when we let them wander around on the street freely.
Secondly, losing their conscious mind does not mean that they have forgotten their basic
instinct for food, drinks and self-preservation. We can imagine what will happen when they feel hungry
or thirsty when they are roaming around on the street. They will cause trouble to the people around
them. Keeping them in a special place will prevent this problem. It will bring security for the insane
people and also for the society.
Thirdly, people with mental illness may not have a healthy mind, but they do have a healthy
body or at least healthy body parts. Without anyone caring, they are the best target of human
trafficking business as no one will notice if they are disappear. That is why we need to protect them by
placing them in a secure facility where we can always check on their condition and make sure that
they are safe.
Based on the explanations above, it is clear that we need to protect the people with mental
illness by placing them in a special and secure facility where we can take care of them and cure them
if it is possible

38. What does the human trafficking businessman probably do to the mentally-ill person?
a. Selling their healthy organs.
b. Curing their diseases.
c. Taking care of their lives.
d. Bathing up them carefully.
e. Treating their mental illness.
A mobile phone (also known as a wireless phone, cell phone, or cellular telephone) is a very small
portable radio telephone.
The first mobile phone networks were created in the late 1970s in Japan. A cell phone
combines technologies, mainly telephone, radio, and computer. Cell phones work as two-way radios.
They send electromagnetic microwaves from base station to base station. The waves are sent
through antennas. This is called wireless communication.
There are different kinds of phones. A flip phone flips open, and is best for calling. A bar
phone is shaped like a candy bar, and the keys and screen are on one face. A slate phone is a phone
that has almost no buttons, and uses a touchscreen. Most smartphones are slates. A slider phone
slides on rails. It can slide out number keys or a mini keyboard, but some do both. A swivel spins on
an axle.
Many 21st century mobile phones are smartphones. These phones can be used for email,
browsing the internet, playing music and games, and many other functions that computers can
perform. This is because mobile phones basically are small computers. Older phones also used
computer technology, but lacked many of the parts of a computer that were too big to fit into a phone.
Modern phone makers have been able to use smaller parts. Most smartphones are also GPS
receivers and digital cameras.
