Greece
• Ancient Greece was born on the shores of the Aegean
Sea about four thousand years ago.
• In over a millennium, it expanded to lands as far as
Spain and as far east as India.
• Of all aspects of ancient Greek civilization, their
cultural contributions left a considerable mark on the
western world.
Greek Architecture
• Greek architecture was inspired, by a desire to reach true
beauty, and by extension, the divine.
• It originated in cultures that were situated on the Greek
mainland, the islands in the Aegean Sea, colonies in Asia Minor,
and the Peloponnese Peninsula.
• The architecture of Ancient Greece concerns the buildings
erected on the Greek mainland, the Aegean Islands, and
throughout the Greek colonies in Asia Minor
