Julie Sullivan Brace is an accomplished guitarist and
songwriter who has been on the Flagstaff music scene for
the past 30 years. She is also the creative force behind
the annual Pickin’ in the Pines Bluegrass and Acoustic
Music Festival.

BABA BRINKMAN
Baba Brinkman is a rap artist, science communicator,
and award-winning playwright based in New York, NY. In
addition to his science rap, Baba is a pioneer in the genre
of “lit-hop” or literary hip-hop, with rap adaptations of
Beowulf, Gilgamesh, and Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.

ED HAGEN
Edward Harold Hagen is an American biological anthro-
pologist and professor in the Department of Anthropology
at Washington State University Vancouver, where he
researches evolutionary explanations for mental health
phenomena and substance use.

MZILIKAZI KONÉ
Mzilikazi Koné is the host of Channel Zed’s Zombie
History and a Political Science Professor at College
of the Desert. Join her for an exploration of Reggae

Jessica Phillips-Silver music neuroscience scholar, speaker
& artistic creator. She conducts research on entrainment
in music and movement, with interests in typical devel-
opment as well as groups of individuals who are blind or
deaf; tone-deaf or beat-deaf.

DANTE’ POPE
Dante’ performs Chicago-based blues, gospel, jazz and soul
music to uplift and continue the legacy of Black American
Music. In addition to his solo career, he toured with The
Crossrhodes on NPR’s Tiny Desk show, and collaborated
with Dom Flemons on the album “Black Cowboys.”

MATTHEW SANDOVAL
Matthew Sandoval is a Senior Lecturer at Arizona State
University, who researches Dia de los Muertos (Day of the
Dead). He focuses on the large-scale public celebrations
of the holiday to examine how it transformed from a
MesoAmerican ritual to American popular culture.
