MultiDocker Cargo Handling AB designs, manufactures, markets

and sells the MultiDocker and is a wholly owned subsidiary of
Österströms Rederi AB.

Österströms Rederi AB was founded in 1981.
Österströms shipping activities are
concentrated to contractual sea transports with
approximately 30 vessels in the fleet. Since its
formation, Österströms has been heavily
involved in the demanding loading and
discharging processes of short-sea shipping. By
own experience Österströms found out how to
make the material handling more efficient in
ports and started to develop their own material
handlers and used them onboard the barges. In
the beginning, a number of excavators were
modified, but when Österströms acquired their
own shipyard the possibility to produce the
material handlers in their own direction
increased. The first cargo handler was ready in
1993, a reconstructed excavator with a cabin

elevator and a reach of 17m. Satisfied with this
product the team continued to develop more
powerful machines with even better reach. In
1996 the undercarriage was developed into a
wheel carried model with four axles and the
reach totalled 18,5m.
During the 90's the company had 20 material
handlers operating in Baltic terminals, on and
vessels, and in ports. The team contained a
service organisation of 10 technicians and 20
drivers.
Cooperation with Caterpillar started in 1997 and
the foundation for the MultiDocker CH65 was
set in the year 2000. The organisation was
reinforced to process specifications, design and
calculations.

The first MultiDocker CH65 was introduced in

Västervik Port and shortly after in Landskrona
Port. The time for construction was reduced to
20 weeks and the cooperation between the
participants functioned very well, the crane was
