EXPRESSIONS & SENTENCES: A Differentiation

Mathematical Expressions

 Ito yung mga quantity na pinaguusapan sa isang situation or problem.

It also usually represented by symbols or numbers.
 It is also the collection of algebraic terms na pinagseseperate using
different mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division.
 Since because it is just an expression, it has an incomplete thought
 For example, x+19, you’re going to add the value of x with 19 and then
what will be the next step? None, kasi hindi mo alam kung ano na ang
sunod na dapat gawin kasi hindi nga sya complete thought.
 Same as the following examples:
X/4, a2 + 14a – 49, (y+7)2 , 2b-b
They are all just expression because it does not indicate a complete
thought on what to do next.
Mathematical Sentence

 It consists of mathematical expressions related using equality and

inequality symbols.
 Unlike Mathematical Expression, Mathematical Sentence has complete
thought.
 For example, x+19=28 it is the same example we used during the
explanation in Expression. But since we added “=”, we can now relate na
ang hinahanap pala natin ay something na mag eequal sa 28. Look for
other examples below:

x+19=28
x/4 > x-6
(4+7)2 <49

 Since a mathematical sentence has a complete thought, it can be either

be true or false.
