How can I teach younger students to be prepared
in emergency situations?

One Pager:
My Mentors:
❏ Becoming Vice President of the Red Cross and being a key part of our weekly
meetings.
❏ This has allowed me to connect our members with my progression in my junior
project as well as keeping them updated on certain events we will participate in.
❏ Getting the FAST curriculum approved by Mrs. Federoff.
❏ Visited with Mr. Sargeants community engagement classroom.
❏ I was able to talk to the students about my experience with the Red Cross and
how it can benefit them.
Timeline:
I am on track as best as I can be. I never had a solid timeline created at
the beginning of this project because I am working for an organization
beyond myself. Sadly our scheduled presentation at Haiku Elementary
was cancelled last minute. I thought I would able to move faster with
this project but I have laid down the groundwork so hopefully things
can move forward. Working with an organization means you have to
work with their schedule and timelines as well which can be difficult.
Challenges & Surprises:
Something that has challenged me with this project is the stress to do
something meaningful with this project. This was more prevalent for me
at the beginning because I felt like I had no room to fail. Having to work
with people that can change their minds can be discouraging. I am
surprised at how amazing my mentors are, they are really helping to
keep me optimistic about what we can do.
Next Steps:
I am hoping to get into contact with Jenny Worth and get our members
trained in the FAST curriculum. I am hoping to get into contact with a
class for every high school grade so that we can reach more kids. I am
hoping to present a Prepare with Pedro presentation with an
elementary school class at KCS very soon. I am going to try to plan a
KCS Red Cross Club field trip on September 26th to get all of our
members CPR certified. I am also hoping to solidify our plan to go to
Moloka`i and do a presentation there on October 7th.
