1 Evidence:
Forum “Football vs the others”

Colombia has always been an outstanding country when it comes to sports. Names
such as Martin Emilio “Cochise” Rodriguez, Antonio Cervantes “kid Pambelé” and
more recently, Mariana Pajón and Nairo Quintana, are points of reference when
talking about cycling, boxing and BMX.
But, although we have excellent athletes in all these sports, football is by far the
most popular and most supported sport in our country. A great part of the budget that
is designated to sports goes just to football. Most of the sporting events broadcasted
on national television are related to football. This can be seen as unfair with other
sports where athletes have to make a bigger effort to receive support and attention
from the government.
Answer the following questions in your participation in the forum:

● What sport do you follow in Colombia and why? (If you don’t follow
sports here, or at all, explain why not.)
R/= The sport that I follow the most is volleyball since it is a sport that I love
and I am passionate about.

● What do you think about the popularity of football and the fact that it
receives more attention from the government than other sports? Is it
fair?
R/= Football is the sport in which there is the most controversy, where there
are more fans, where there are more things to talk about, many times there
are footballers who talk more than necessary... As it is the sport that has more
fans, I understand that there is more talk to get more audience. It is also the
sport that moves the most money when signing players. For all these reasons
it seems normal to me that there is a lot of talk about football.

● What can we do in order to help athletes in other disciplines to have

better conditions and support?
R/= Provide good training so that they have:
1. Good nutrition for better performance
2. Talk to them about good hydration
3. That they adapt a good meal and training schedule
4. That discipline leads them to meet their goals
5. Set short, medium and long term goals
6. Let them evaluate their results
7. But above all, talk to them about the true commitment they have with
themselves
- That they promote more in the institutions that provide support to these with
equipment and endowment in the most vulnerable institutions. That in the
poorest parts of the country the Ministry of Education sponsors sports much
more among young people, since in rural areas children know very little about
them. More support, incentives, sponsorship

● How can we motivate national channels to broadcast a wider type of

sport programs and not just football?
R/= I really we can inform according to the news that are generated of the
events where Colombia reflects the sport, that we have an incredible potential
to be able to continue beating the best, to make campaigns recognizing and
blurring the information of the good athletes that we can potentiate for A better
prestige in sport
