SMART EXPIRY DATE
RECOGNITION
ABSTRACT
❑A optical character recognition, specifically tuned to detect
expiration dates that are printed on the packaging of
medicines.

❑ A cloud based smart expiry recognition system which sends

an automatic notification to corresponding user’s smartphone
and displays an message when a product reaches its expiry
date and alert with speech synthesis engine which is specially
for blinders.
WORKING
❑ The Optical Character Recognition(OCR) algorithm help
turn large amounts of paper documents into digital files for
detecting expiry dates in image with very high accuracy.

❑ The first step is to extract the expiration dates by using a

deep state of the neural network of the scene text detector.

❑ During the second step , delimiting the regions of interest

obtained in previous step will be cropped from the image.
❑ Finally, the text will be filtered using filtering algorithms
and a series of regular expressions , then the current dates
will be obtained using a library that can parse time and date
in most popular formats.

❑ It generates the notifications of soon-expiring medicines

through user’s smartphone and the IOT device.

❑ This system can also used for blinders through alerting by

voice using speech synthesis engine.

APPLICATION
❑ Indicates the best quality of medicines.

❑ It is used to inform consumers of the last day the product

will be safe to consume.

❑ It can be used to prevent the people from intake of expired

medicines.
CONCLUSION
❑ This system allows to scanning the expiration date of a
medicines, using image captured by the camera or fixed
devices, would encourage to reduces the intake of expiry
medicines and also would allows visually-impaired persons
to find out this information without the help of others.
