Types of printers
There are basically five types of printer:
Dot matrix
Daisy-wheel
Ink jet
Laser
Plotter
Laser printers
If dot matrix printers give slow low quality printouts as
Ink-jet printers
Ink-jet printers lie somewhere between dot matrix and
laser printers. The quality is nearly as high as that of
a laser printer and the price much lower. Ink-jet
printers are quiet, cheap alternatives to dot matrix
printers. The quality of the printout depends on how many
dots are squirted onto the paper, rather like the number
of pins in the printing head of a dot matrix.
Plotters
Plotters are a different sort of printing mechanism often
associated with CAD/CAM and other drawing programs. The
important difference is that plotters actually use pens
that are steered around the paper to produce real lines
rather than patterns of dots.
