LISTENING SUMMARY

In the presentation, the speaker talked about some ways to cut

down on waste. She said that we were negatively affecting the
environment; therefore, it was time for us to treat it correctly. She then
concentrated on some 3Rs-related actions to look after our planet. They
included reduce, reuse and recycle. The first R she mentioned was
reduce. It is probably the best way because we won’t have to dispose of
rubbish if we can prevent it from being produced in the first place. In
addition, she gave two realistic examples of reducing waste: by choosing
loose fruit and vegetables rather than those packaged in plastic, and
utilizing reusable bottles or containers. After that, she went on to discuss
the second R which is reusing items. The speaker herself often keeps the
gift bags or boxes she receives from special occasions and reuses them
to give presents to someone else. She also recommended the audience
bring their own bags instead of getting a new one when going shopping.
Finally, the speaker finished her speech by adding some information
about recycling, which means turning waste products into new items.
She has recently cleared out her wardrobe, thrown away some clothes,
and sold them to raise money for charity. These were some tips that can
be incorporated into our lifestyles to have a better planet.
