How My Cultural Identity was Constructed and Influenced?
The term "cultural identity" implies a connection in a particular group depending on a
variety of influences. Traditions, for example, are examples of accumulated understanding that can be shared. Culture, language, style, ethics, and traditions are all important factors to consider. Since individuals usually have multiple connections, the concept of a cultural group, as well as cultural identity, is complicated. My cultural identity is based from my household as I was growing up. During childhood up to now, I follow our house rules and our family culture. When it comes to social norms and basic etiquettes, specifically table etiquettes, we are not allowed to turning of the plates when someone is still eating, and leaving the table unless everyone is already finished. In this norm, I think almost everyone is familiar with this house rule, as a sign of respect also. In general, no one should leave the table until the eldest person has finished their meal. It is also disrespectful to leave the table without first requesting approval from the guest or elders. Normally, whoever finishes first will wait for others to finish, and then everyone will leave the table. The three things that I discovered about my cultural identity, first, is we are traditional. Traditional in a way of, we still adopt the tradition of the elderly by being at home already at 6 pm. Because since we are already in a modern world where going home at past midnight is normal already, in our culture, we don’t live like that. Next, is we value respect, as we are taught to respect other people, so they should respect you too. And the last thing that I discovered is we all have differences when it comes to cultural identity. As a result of these encounters, cultural identity is constantly constructed through negotiations, persistence, and challenge practices of communications.
