WEEK 3: PERFORMANCE TASK

Title: “Effects of Classroom Conduciveness to the Academic Performance of

Grade 12 Students”

Definition of Terms

For the purpose of clarification, the important terms used in this study has

been defined. The following terms are:

Classroom. Described as a place where the classes take place.

Operationally, it is defined as the place where the students used for their learning

experience.

Conduciveness. Defined as the quality of being useful, accessible or

suitable for someone. In this study, it is defined as the state of the classroom that

the student is going to everyday for his learning.

Student. Defined as a person who is studying at a school, college or

university. In this study, this refers to the Grade 12 students of Rizal Memorial

Institute of Dapitan City, Inc. of the academic year 2022-2023 of the second

semester.

Ventilation. Defined as a mechanical system which includes windows,

ceilings, and exhausts to allow fresh air to enter a facility. In this study, the

effectiveness of the classroom’s ventilation is measured to determine how

satisfied were the students on the conduciveness of the classroom.

Conveniency. A quality or situation that makes something easy or useful

for someone. Something that makes you more comfortable or allows you to do
2

things more easily in the environment you liked.

Effects. A change that results when something is done or happens: an

event, condition or state of affairs that is produced by a cause. Usually occurs

after a phenomenon happens.

Courses. A series of classes about a particular subject in a school. A

student chooses his course by his likes, talent, attitude and his strength.

Problems. Something that is difficult to deal with. Difficulty in

understanding something. Often needs a solution. Also happens when worrying

something whether a deadline, math problem and exams.

Theoretical Framework

The study is anchored on the theory of educational productivity by Herbert

J. Walberg which studies the effects of school settings that affect the academic

performance of a student. It is an analysis of academic productivity wherein

Walberg utilized different strategies and methods how to determine the factors

that could affect the academic performance of a student. Walberg analyzed his

study with the aid of different theories and incorporated his study with 3000

related studies. He identified eleven factors where eight of which were affected

by social-emotional influences which consisted of parental support, classroom

management, student-teacher relationship, social-behavioral attributes,

motivational-effective attributes, and peer pressure.

3

The variables are shown with different representations. Ability, motivation, and

age reflect the characteristics of the student. Quantity, quality, classroom

climate, home environment, peer group, and exposure have shown various

aspects of the psychological setting. Walberg discussed that these variables

have specific effects that could lead to difficulty in the academic performance of

students if proper guidance is not present. Valuing the importance of a certain

variable can cause a great impact on the student's academic performance.

Figure 1 shows the conceptual framework of this study using the Input

Process Output (IPO) Model. The researchers chose this model in order to give

emphasis to the research process.

The input are the independent variables which will be collected in order to

conduct the study. This includes the students profile such as the name, section,

and the classroom assigned. This also includes data that will be collected and

analyzed such as the rating of the students to the classroom conduciveness. This
5

includes classroom ventilation, lighting, setting, armchairs, projector or

blackboard, and cleanliness.

The process includes the methods which will be used in order to obtain

and interpret results. This includes statistical tools, conduct interviews and

surveys, administer questionnaires, and organization of data.

Lastly, the output of the study is the assessed level of effectiveness in

terms of the classroom’s conduciveness to the students’ academic performance.

This vital for schools in improving their classrooms facilities to increase the

comfortability and conduciveness of a certain facility.

Statement of Hypotheses:

Ho: The classroom conduciveness does not affect the academic performance of

the students

Ha: The classroom conduciveness does affect the academic performance of the

students
