POINTS TO BE COVERED IN SITE ANALYSIS PRESENTATION

1. Introduction slide -

(maybe an arial image of the site taken from a building)

2. Location plan and connectivity –

a. where the site is in Mumbai, w.r.t Mumbai city

b. location plan w.r.t. main roads, train line, nearest station,

(highlight the outline of the site in bold red, show North)

c. any proposed transportation lines (Metro, Monorail) nearby

d. nearest train station, bus stops

3. History of the place –

a. when were the buildings in and around the site built and for whom

b. evolution of the place through the decades

c. existing Architectural character, if any

4. Topography and Geography –

a. physical character of the site

b. contours and general direction of slope of the land

c. nature of soil and rock strata below

5. Flora and fauna –

a. type of trees present on site and their location

b. shrubs / rock formation etc


6. Environmental analysis –
a. Orientation of the site
b. Prevalent wind direction

7. Cross sections through site and surrounding –

a. clearly showing roads, pavements, and nearby buildings

b. images of the above

c. sketches explaining scale & density

8. Bye laws applicable to site –

a. Total F.S.I. consumed by the existing buildings


b. Permissibe F.S.I. for the site
c. Side / front open space requirement and height restrictions

9. Access routes to site –

a. roads leading to site with arrows marked on plan

b. images as one moves down the road towards the site

c. reverse view when one reaches the site entrance

d. height and scale of nearby buildings / setback from road /

Type of construction / paving material of road and pavement

Street furniture / bus stops / foliage / hoardings etc

10. Entrance to site –

a. transition space from road to inside of site

d. paving material / compound wall / gate / signage


11. Services –

a. Important drainage lines existing on site and on adjoining road

b. transmission / telephone lines passing through / near site

c. Electrical sub – station located on site (if any)

12. Elevations of surrounding buildings –

a. series of vertical shots from along the boundary walls of the site, looking

outside, stitched together on photoshop

b. the idea is to create a skyline of buildings around site

13. Imageability (Kevil Lynch survey)–

a. Path / Edge / District / Node / Landmark

b. Talk about how people locate themselves and find their way around

with respect to the 5 points.

c. Clearly define the 5 aspects in the plan of the site and surrounding.

d. Images of the 5 aspects with supporting text

14. Architectural Response –

a. how your study analyses response of people to buildings and vice

versa (thro visual analysis)

b. climatic response of existing buildings


15. Social Response –

a. any apparent social messages (thro visual analysis)

b. sanitation and hygiene levels of site and surroundings

c. other social messages (graffiti / vandalism / lack of maintenance etc)

16. Any other aspects that you feel are important to the Site Analysis.

17. MOST IMPORTANTLY, how are we going to use this information to help
us Generate / enhance the design brief.
